* Say Om: Doctors Find Meditation Affects Your Body *
It turns out peaceful thoughts really can influence our bodies, right down to
the instructions we receive from our DNA, according to a new study.
Researchers for the study, published in the Public Library of Science, took
blood samples from a group of 19 people who habitually meditated or prayed for
years, and 19 others who never meditated.
The researchers ran genomic analyses of the blood and found that the meditating
group suppressed more than twice the number of stress-related genes—about 1,000
of them—than the nonmeditating group.

Workplace wellness programs are effective in helping employees lose weight, a
research review shows.
Researchers sifted through
11 studies published since 1994, some which were updated in 2006. Most of the
programs involved education and counseling to improve diet and increase physical
activity.
Some programs offered a health risk assessment and lab work; others provided
one-on-one and email counseling. Only one included on-site exercise sessions,
and another added healthy menu items in the cafeteria, along with nutritional
information.

risk than men who don’t, new research suggests.

French Toast Sticks
8 slices bread
5 ounces liquid or frozen egg substitute, thawed
2 1/2 tablespoons skim milk
Dash nutmeg
1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
Slice each piece of bread into 4 slices. Mix egg substitute with milk. Blend spices with sugar and add to the egg mixture. Dip bread pieces into egg mixture and cook on a heated nonstick skillet until golden brown. Serve with powdered sugar and/or syrup.
