* Does 'Hope Therapy' Help Depression? *
Is being hopeful something we can learn? Researchers hope so. Several studies looking at "hope therapy" are showing positive results.
Study lead author Jennifer Cheavens of Ohio State University says in a news release that "hope therapy seeks to build on strengths people have, or teach them how to develop those strengths. We focus not on what is wrong, but on ways to help people live up to their potential."
That's a detour from traditional talk therapy, which often focuses on what's wrong.

* God vs. Doctor: 1 in 2 Say Prayer Saves the Dying *
When it comes to saving lives, God trumps doctors for many Americans.
An eye-opening survey reveals widespread belief that divine intervention can revive dying patients. And, researchers said, doctors "need to be prepared to deal with families who are waiting for a miracle."
More than half of randomly surveyed adults -- 57 percent -- said God's intervention could save a family member even if physicians declared treatment would be futile. And nearly three-quarters said patients have a right to demand such treatment.

* Study: You Can Chew Gum and Get Well at Same Time *
Can you chew gum and recover from surgery at the same time? British researchers say it's a great idea for some patients. Chewing gum may speed the return of normal bowel function after colon surgery, a new analysis of five studies suggests. Some patients have trouble moving their bowels after colon surgery but chewing gum may fool the body into good digestion.
Gum gets the juices flowing, literally. Besides saliva, it may stimulate gut hormones and pancreatic secretions, according to the study's authors, researchers at Imperial College London.

* Want to Boost Kids' Grades? Get Them Moving *
Want to help your kids do better in school this fall? Get them moving. That's the message from a growing field of research linking physical activity with better academic performance.
At a time when many schools have reduced or eliminated gym classes and recess, experts say the worry goes beyond the childhood obesity epidemic.

* Video Games May Help Critical Thinking *
Some video games might deserve more credit than they get, and could be a good teaching tool.
So say researchers including Constance Steinkuehler, PhD, assistant professor in the educational communication and technology program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
They studied nearly 2,000 posts in an online forum for players of the massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft.

* Kinesiology *
Do you ever lie? More importantly, do you
ever lie to yourself? Well, probably not deliberately. If you've ever wondered
why it's sometimes hard to overcome obstacles, or create the life of your
dreams, you're not alone! Even experts, who teach manifestation and attraction
principles, run into obstacles in manifesting their desires. Could it be that
what you consciously say you want clashes with what you unconsciously desire?
Could you be lying to yourself, and not even know?
You're probably familiar with the popular concept thoughts create reality. The
first time I was introduced to the concept, a flame of anger rose in me faster
than you could strike a match. I was red-hot mad because my life looked like an
F5 tornado had passed through it. I thought to myself that there is no way I
would have created a life of devastation and ruin! What an absurd concept!

* Exercise Equipment *
Exercise shoes can trip you up when it comes to buying a pair suited for your
feet. Avoid the pitfalls (and blisters); use these tips to shop for the best
exercise footwear for you.
I've got it badly wrong in the past. Lights, mirrors, great displays, pushy
sales people, and I was straight to the till.
Big mistake. It's not all about looks when buying footwear for exercise.

* Reflexology *
When people ask me, "Can reflexology help my
cold?" I believe in my heart that it can. But that doesn't mean it'll happen the
way I want it to. Here are some factors to consider to help you and your clients
decide what's best for them.
The Pros or "Benefits":
Here's what we can claim about reflexology:
1. Reflexology is stress relieving. (It's probably THE most relaxing method, bar
none.)
2. Reflexology helps support the body's own healing efforts toward balance or
homeostasis. (This makes sense because when we're more relaxed, everything tends
to function better.)
3. Reflexology may influence circulation. (It's a byproduct of our techniques -
a bonus!)
