Rapid weight gain during the first few months of life may increase high blood pressure risk in adulthood, a new study shows.

The research adds to the mounting evidence suggesting a role for prenatal and early life growth in many chronic conditions of adulthood, including obesity and heart disease.

* Vitamins, Family Style: What to Take When *

You probably have no interest in wearing your daughter's up-to-here skirt or your son's down-to-there baggy jeans. Well, fashion isn't the only area in which a "do" for one family member can be a "don't" for another -- you, your husband, your kids, and your parents all have surprisingly different requirements when it comes to nutrition, says Connie Weaver, PhD, head of the nutrition department at Purdue University.

In fact, one may need a supplement that another should avoid. Because one size doesn't fit all, here's a guide to the shortfalls that occur at different ages -- and the best ways to fill them for young, old, and in-between.

* Preventing Allergies at Work Takes a Multi-Pronged Approach *

About once a month, Desiree DeFlorimonte had to change a ceiling panel in one corner of her office at work, encrusted as it was with black mold. This pattern continued for seven years, over the course of which DeFlorimonte, 60, suffered from a barrage of respiratory problems.

"It was hell living through it," DeFlorimonte said. "I was at the doctor's office every few months," constantly sneezing, coughing, and experiencing respiratory infections, she said.

Her mold allergies, and the medications she took to relieve them, made DeFlorimonte, a reading specialist at a Maryland grade school, miserable -- and less productive.

* 'Active' Video Games Burn Calories *

Kids who play activity-oriented video games are getting quite a workout, a new study shows.

Video and computer gaming is a popular pastime for school-aged children, but such activities have been wrought with criticism. Research has shown that children who play seated video games for extended amounts of time have an increased risk for obesity.

"Active" gaming systems may help combat this problem. Such entertainment systems allow players to become part of the game. For example, an activity-oriented video game might virtually place someone in a tennis match and allow the person to swing at a ball. Body movements are necessary in order for the game to function.

* Study: Exercise May Improve Brain Function in Older Adults *

Brisk walking led to slight improvements on mental tests for older people with memory problems in what is billed as the first rigorous test of exercise on the aging brain.

The results from the small Australian study were only modest. But they back up observational studies showing potential mental benefits from physical activity.

The effects of exercise were at least as good, if not better, than those seen with drugs approved to aid mental function in Alzheimer's disease, according to experts not involved in the study.

* Energy Medicine *

Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Resident Medical Expert on The Oprah Winfrey show, calls Energy Medicine "the next frontier in medicine." I agree. I also see it as a medicine of the present with an increasing number of approaches to this work. The basic premise of this approach to health care is that everything that exists, that we see, sense or feel, is made up of energy. It is accepted that our physical bodies are simply energy slowed down to a state that creates physical mass. The unique blend and flow of that mass within each one of us is what creates our individuality.

The energy within our body is both brought in from the outside through our chakras and is created internally through blood flow, muscle movement, organ function, and so forth. In its natural state, this energy is fluid, flowing, and vibrant -- the way we feel when we are healthy. However, every thought, feeling, and emotion we have is an energetic reality. There are times when we judge ourselves harshly because of what we think, do, or feel. We can hold our thoughts and feelings down, trying to pretend we don't have them. Every time we do that, the repressed energy literally becomes stuck, stagnant, and creates small energetic blocks.

* Heart Disease *

Although many people all over the world are proclaiming the health benefits of following an Authentic Mediterranean Plan to prevent heart attacks, there is still some confusion about what this diet consists of. And that is in part because at times, different dietary plans are presented to us disguised as an Authentic Mediterranean Diet when the reality is that they have very little to do with it.

But before reading this article I would like you to answer the following question: How many times a week do you eat meat and how often do you eat vegetables? If the scale leans towards the meat, you are not following an Authentic Mediterranean Diet but a diet with an excess of proteins that may not be too healthy.

* Insomnia *

One in three spend hours tossing and turning when they are supposed to be sleeping. Are you one of them? The numbers are staggering of how many people experience some type of insomnia or sleep challenge at some point in their lives. And whether it is a short or long term disturbance, both yoga and qigong can help quiet the mind and the nervous system in preparation for natural sleep.

The good news is that just 10 simple minutes of yoga or qigong can really assist in this process of emptying the mind of the stresses of the day and the mind chatter that often riddles you at night.

Most everyone know even a little about yoga, but frequently, less is understood about qigong. Let's begin.

*** Book Review: The Book Of Reframes - By Stewart Robertson ***
-------------------------------------------------------------

Stewart's book is a must have if you wish to seamlessly weave NLP reframes through EFT into the transformational fabric of your life as well as the lives of your clients.

As I read Stewart's new book, I found myself hoping that I was absorbing his intuition subliminally.

Even though I have carried out much research into re-framing from many talented NLPers, Stewart's book provided many novel insights and creative twists.

When I read The Book of Reframes I wished that it had been available to me when I was studying for my EFT Master's exams.

Thank you Stewart for your dedication in producing this superb book.

Enjoy the health benefits of broccoli with an Asian flavor in this easy-to-prepare recipe. Broccoli is not only an excellent source of vitamin A, K, and C as well as folate and fiber, it also contains health-promoting sulfur compounds which increases your liver's ability to produce enzymes to neutralize toxic substances. Combined with carrots (or any other vegetables of your choice) and tofu for protein, you will have a complete meal in a matter of minutes that looks and tastes great.

Prep and Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

Directions:

1. Fill bottom of steamer with 2 inches of water.
2. While steam is building up in steamer, cut broccoli florets into quarters and let them sit for 5-10 minutes to bring out their health promoting properties. Also cut stems into 1/4-inch pieces.
3. Press or chop garlic and let sit for at least 5 minutes.
4. Add tofu and sliced carrots to steamer and steam for 2 minutes.
5. Add broccoli and steam for 5 more minutes.
