*** GOAL SETTING- THE PLANNING PHASE ***
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Successful goal setting requires planning. After you have clearly identified a goal, the next step in the Goal Setting process is detailed planning. The Planning Phase includes the following steps:

1 Brainstorming - Ask yourself, " What steps are necessary to achieve your goal?
(Write down your answer, be complete, and include all possible steps.)

2 Arrange the steps in a logical sequence, ideally in chronological order. What step needs to be completed first, second, third, etc?

3 Break up your larger steps into smaller steps. (Go through each of your initial steps and identify the smallest steps necessary to complete each of them, until each step written appears achievable by itself.

4 Identify a deadline for completing your original goal. Make it aggressive, yet reasonable and achievable.

5 Set a milestone. Identify a mid-point target to complete from your full list of steps, and set a date for its completion.

6 Schedule all the intermediary steps, and begin working on Step One. Begin TODAY. You are on your way to completing your first goal. Good Luck!

*** STRESS MANAGEMENT - IMAGING ***
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Imaging (or visualization) involves the creation of a visual scene or situation that is conducive to mental and physical relaxation. The scene can be created through the use of audiotapes, a therapist's instructions or one's own memory. Properly used, it can be effective in the release of generalized stress, in the enhancement of positive feelings, and in the reduction of neuro-muscular tension and its accompanying somatic effects such as pain.

The procedure requires a construction of a mental picture of a situation, which the person finds to be relaxing and able to evoke pleasant and positive feelings. This might involve a memory occurring on a relaxing vacation or trip, or even at home in which the person felt particularly relaxed and at ease.

Although tapes and therapists instructions are often helpful, a person's own pleasant or relaxing memory can be quite effective.

By closing one's eyes and visualizing such a scene while breathing in a slow, steady and relaxing way, feelings of stress can be relieved. Conveying the feeling of that scene to the present can be learned by training and practice, or under the supervision of a professional therapist.

*** TIME SAVING TIPS AT THE OFFICE ***
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 If you save your work onto computer discs, make sure to label them right away. This will save time opening many discs to search for what you need.

2 Don't let your desk become cluttered with industry magazines, articles etc. that you intend to read when you get a chance. Create a "To read" folder and catch up on your reading during your commute. (Then file them, or throw them away)

3 Begin the workday when you plan to begin it. If you normally arrive at the office at 9:00 and then get your coffee/tea, arrive ten minutes early. Otherwise, you will psychologically already be behind in your schedule when you first sit down to your desk at 9:10.
