Today, I am bringing you some words of wisdom about true happiness. How do you feel about that title: "Desperate search for something that I know ultimately won't fulfill me"? Let's play a little game, you and I, shall we? Tell me, What did you want ten years ago? There's a good chance that most of it, you already ...

I hear people around me often saying things like: "I don't have enough time. Time is an issue for me. My only problem is time… There's just not enough time in my day…" and things like that. And I'd like to point out what should be obvious and yet, while we all get it on the conscious level, most people, especially ...
A mother's letter to her adult daughter...by Glenda Gibbs Briefing - I had made an earlier request for help, to which my daughter didn't want to have anything to do with it. After sharing a few thoughts, I scripted the following and sent it. Note: With my daughter's permission and her name ...

Did I get your attention? You might be sitting there thinking, “Patricia, you are really pushing it! You are just plain crazy with your positivity by calling rejection a gift. Rejection hurts too much to be good for me in any way.” I can relate to your viewpoint because I used to feel that way too. All I ask of you this week is that you contemplate the ideas I share. You just never know how your perspective might expand if you do.
Back when I was a cog in the corporate machine I was evaluated by my supervisor yearly. I was asked to provide a list of goals that I wished to attain for the following year. These were quite different than my life goals (most of which, at that time, revolved around dark chocolate and getting more sleep); they had to be serious and reachable within the next year. After presenting my list to my director I was asked to narrow down my top five goals, ones that I wanted to achieve within six months.
Genius level thinking is not reserved only for highly mentally gifted. Geniuses have a system for how to work through problems, which they may or may not be conscious of. Once you learn the system, you can use it to solve problems the way geniuses do. The difference between them and you is that they’ve simply used their system longer than you have. Once you gain some practice with it, internalize it, and begin to use it automatically, the people in your life will see you as a genius to. Here are the 7 steps to genius level problems solving. 1.
How many times in your life have you put off doing something because you couldn’t decide the best course of action to take? I’ve known people plan to go out for a well earned meal with their partner and end up staying at home because they couldn’t make up their mind betwee Chinese or Italian. Heaven help the person who orders sweet and sour chicken when all along they should have been having lasagne!
As someone who's got some pretty big goals that I'm working towards, I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately. My focus has been on some of the traditionally great thinkers in the area of law of attraction, success, positive thinking and goal achievement — you know, Napolean Hill, James Allen, Bob Proctor and the like.
As you would probably expect, working in the field of personal development I get to spend a lot of my time with people talking to them about goal setting and visualisation. I cannot over emphasise the power of positive intention when it comes to manifesting an amazing life, but there is a common trap that too many people fall into while “dreaming their way to success”. One of the most significant developments in my realisation of what true success requires is the notion of being non-attached to the object or outcome of desire.
For teens it seems like everyone else is confident and successful … except them. The teen years can be a very difficult time. For teenagers, the changes in their physical body and their hormonal changes can create a lack of self confidence and self esteem. Imagine how your teen’s bodily changes verses the perceived norm or desired change can affect your teen’s self image. Now add in the increased pressure to fit in within their social structure and the pressures of school. Yes, the teen years are not easy.

Bad days suck. They make everything that's going well in your life seem a little darker. They can make you cranky and carry around all sorts of negative energy, emotions and memories. When you are in the midst of a bad day, its hard to see beyond it. Your top priority when starting a bad day is to stop it as soon as possible. Here are 5 Ways to Overcome a Bad Day: 1. Drink Before you get too excited, let's clarify. A cup of hot tea can often break a bad mood.

Being a woman in today’s society can be extremely fulfilling, but also challenging at the best of times. We know we should feel lucky and grateful after how far we’ve come in history. Yet, a lot of us may have taken on more that we can chew...
Why is it important to get into action?-because just doing visualization and positive affirmation isn’t going to attract what we want. It is just hoping that some day it will happen-there is no some day in our calendars! People like to pretend that they don’t have to do anything to attract what they want is an error in their thinking. There is unlimited power in using the positive and negative, balancing it out including using them to something other then fighting each other.
Have you see Kung Fu Panda yet? If not, I suggest you go out and buy or rent it. It's really amazing. I love the animation, but that's not even the best thing about this movie. It's what was said. Yes, there were a few things said in the movie that hit me right between the eyes. They were that powerful. There was one in particular that kind of hurt. Sort of like when someone smacks some sense into you.
There are many, many radio stations broadcasting across the airwaves every minute of ever day and night. Many of those are talk radio. Do you have something to say? Would you like to host your own show to express your passion?
"It is discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit." - Noel Coward The inspiration for this tip came after I had the great fortune to find out about the work of Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks. Together they run The Hendricks Institute, a hugely successful learning centre that teaches core skills for conscious living.
In most homes, school is over, and summertime has begun. On the one hand, most moms feel grateful that warm weather is here, family fun has begun, and the stress of the school year is on hold for the next three months. The kids are ecstatic because they get to run through the yard shooting water guns at their friends, sleep in and stay up later, and take a break from dreaded homework. But it doesn’t take too long before another set of emotions creep in.
In my last article regarding goal setting, I outlined some keys for accountability. This is an important element of your success for many reasons, answering to someone else is an area that is comfortable for many. Another reason that you may need to have someone push or monitor you is because of your fear of success. You may wonder who on earth could be afraid of being successful. Many more that you can imagine. In my workshops, we find that most, who thought they were not afraid, really were.
Forgiveness is a topic that has come up quite a bit lately not only in my practice, but in my personal life. Many people have the mistaken idea that if you forgive someone you say what they did that hurt you was okay. Forgiveness really is about letting go of the negative energy you have around something someone did that hurt you. It's taking back your power and not allowing that person's act to continue to hurt you in the future. Forgiveness is important in our ability to learn, grow and evolve in our lives. More importantly, it's essential if we want to be happy.
I recently left my full-time corporate job to follow my heart and join the ranks of the self-employed, turning my coaching practice into a full-time venture. During my final weeks in the office, I remembered how important it is to truly connect with other people. As word got around that I was leaving the company, many coworkers asked about my future plans. What was I going to do?
In the past few years, the way we communicate has expanded so much that it has affected everything we do. A lot of the processes we use to communicate are not new. Think about it; the first telephone was invented in 1876, the first television in 1925, and the first computer 1939. They have all been retooled for efficiency and entertainment and are more and more frequently combined into one small hand held device. We also communicate through various forms of writing. Do you text? Do you use email? Are you a writer? Do you Tweet?
If you are not familiar with the term vision board, let me explain what it is. A vision board is simply a collage of images, quotes and affirmations of your goals and dreams pasted on poster board giving you a visual for what you want to attract into your life. One of my dreams is to be interviewed on the Oprah show!!! So, ideally, I would collect pictures of guests on Oprah's show and insert my picture instead, creating a visible reality for my dream. In other words, I have a visual reminder to focus on and can experience the feeling of my dream.
As job seekers broaden their horizons to include positions far from their home town, and human resources departments try to deal with the deluge of job applications brought on by the recession, telephone interviews have become much more popular. Here are some telephone interview tips that will help you get your foot in the door – and keep it there. Although this is a guide to help you prepare for a phone interview, you’ll discover some handy job interview tips that will help you, whether you’re on the phone or not.
LYING TO FEEL ACCEPTED I blog frequently for several reasons. I have “jou alled” or blogged for years as a part of my life recovery. Simply, it lets me get things that are on the inside to the outside. I was taught that this was healthy behaviour and guess what? It helps. Honest sharing is good for all. Over the years, as I’ve shared some of my writings, I have been told that they have helped others. I am not unique, and others can relate to some of the thoughts that go through the “Disney World” that sometimes serves as my mind.
The major holidays of the year come back to back. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, people spend the most time with relatives. But, as much as we love our family, much of our stress during this time can be due to them along with the actual actions we must perform. Holiday stress can be of two types: preparation stress and familial stress. Let’s start with the preparation stress. What is the perfect holiday? If you know what it is, give me a call.
"The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” - Albert Einstein Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to spot something that’s wrong as opposed to everything else that is working well?
“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” - Jimmy Dean When I was a kid I would imagine that I could make things happen just by thinking about them. For example, if my best friend was coming over to play I’d look out for him from my bedroom window and try to control the exact moment he would come cycling around the corner into my road (I was an odd child!). I would close my eyes, count to ten and then open them again, expecting to see him arriving right on cue.
I’ve just arrived back from America where I was attending the wedding of a very good friend, and because I was the Best Man I had to give a speech. Now, I’m used to public speaking and facilitating large groups of people in my personal development workshops, so you might be thinking this was a doddle for me.
There is one type request that I get more than any other and that is to provide strategies for generating and maintaining motivation, some people call this ‘self-discipline’. It’s actually not that common for people to ask me for step-by-step instructions on what they need do to get a task completed. You see, most often people already know what they need to do to achieve a particular goal.

Low self esteem is a widespread mental affliction; it has reached epidemic proportions. Almost all people carry this “virus.” Few are symptom-free. Typical indications of infection include anxiety, helplessness, depression and addictions to work, food, alcohol, drugs, and dysfunctional relationships (to name a few). In my work as The Thought Dr., I am privileged to get a peek into the minds of people worldwide. Thoughts of worthlessness are more common than we realize. We view our thoughts as our secrets. Few of us disclose to others our anguished beliefs about ourselves.
What do you think of when you think about your future? And when you do think about it, which I’m sure you do from time to time, how you feel? Do you feel happy, excited, and joyous? Or do you feel uninspired, a bit nervous, or even scared? The reaso I ask is because, to an overwhelming degree, it has been my experience that when people don’t feel good about their future the reason for that is two fold.
Maybe I should say “give yourself a GOOD talking to”! What’s your inner voice saying to you most of the time? Is it saying: “I’m a truly wonderful human being” or “I am worthwhile” or “I’m always good enough”? I’m guessing that, most of the time, it’s more likely to be “Oh no, I failed again” or “Loser” or “What can I do/say/think in order to be accepted and loved?” I’m not a psychologist, so I can’t tell you why we do it, but as a member of the human race I can vouch for the fact that we definitely do it.
Dreams are like the Candy above, they make you feel good. So are you a dream promoter or crusher? Do you support your dreams and dreams of others or do you crush them like stepping on a grape on the floor? I really work on not being judgemental of others dreams. I do hear everyday from people knocking other people down or talking behind their back about the others dreams.
Retraining one's brain to respond to the right hunger cue requires an individual to experience pangs of hunger. In other words, one must learn to go hungry. Why? People that have overeating issues often can't distinguish between real hunger and the desire for food. Over the course of time if one has learned to eat for other reasons than being hungry then behaviors are typified through repeated patterns of response to any number of variables. One may eat because it is time to eat. Another may eat because they are reacting to an event and it is a nurturing response.
It is said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If you don't plan to do things differently, no amount of goal setting will help you achieve what you haven't been achieving up to now. Something has to change. For many people, setting goals means adding things to already busy lives. If a cup is already full to the brim, there is no room to add more water. If you want to freshen up the water, some needs to be emptied out first. So it is with your life.
As you probably can tell that I am passionate about golf. Anyone who plays golf or bowls knows that there are times when your mind can get you down. There are times that you wonder if you ever golfed or bowled before because nothing is working or you may have a good round or game going and want to keep it going. Another situation may be you need to hit a risky shot or have a tough spare to pick up and your mind sometimes gets in the way.
Have I mentioned that I used to be a dance teacher? Balance was a physical quality back then. Something that all the dancers strived for. Some days it was elusive and their performance would be off the entire class. Other days they felt strong, their steps were clear and precise, and they felt anchored to the Earth. As a life coach, I still haven’t gotten away from balance. So many of my clients -- especially the women -- want balance in their lives. The start feeling frazzled and overwhelmed and balance seems to be the elusive answer.
Before the heroes journey our laser sharp and strategic mind identifies and postulates experiences outside of us – intellectually, abstractly and compartmentalized. Everything neatly in its place constricted, ridged and controlled by repetition and stale, lifeless air. Synapse grooves deepen becoming more and more entrenched. We only care for others when payoff wafts. Enter Grace; as miraculous intervention. With veiled eyes her gifts are discarded though; valueless. Turning up the heat, Grace stands firm. A hint of ripening with the journey we begin; unawares.
If you are reading this, you are open to learning. If you are open to learning, you most likely have desire to teach others as well. As coaches and teachers, we so much want to help people. We hear them mention something and suddenly we really want to share with them all of the wisdom we have gained with regards to that subject. We share all we know, and try to get them to commit to following our recommended plan of action for them. Funny, many times they are really not interested in doing that.
A few days ago, I was visiting my daughter’s second grade class and the teacher started a discussion about Martin Luther King and the importance of having dreams. The children’s ideas about dreams were interesting, “Being able to make your own decisions,” “Peace in the world, no war,” “Stop cutting down trees to save the environment.” Then the teacher went a step further and gave them a piece of paper to help them create their own “Dream Story Organizer.” I thought I’d share that with you today.
A few nights ago, we watched “Mr. Magorium’s Magical Emporium” with Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman. It’s a fun and light family movie with a wonderful message. I won’t give away the plot or ending, however at one point in the movie, Dustin Hoffman (Mr. Magorium) smiled and said to Natalie (who at the time was going through a big life transition) “Your life is an occasion; rise to it.” This got me thinking about how Smart Women know this well.
“Can wealth give happiness? Look around and see, what gay distress! What splendid misery! Whatever fortunes lavishly can pour, the mind annihilates and calls for more.” - Andrew Young, Civil Rights Activist.
"You don't have to be a "person of influence" to be influential. In fact, the most influential people in my life are probably not even aware of the things they've taught me.” - Scott Adams Quotes are such powerful directors of thought. They have the ability to condense big and complex ideas or concepts into short, snappy phrases that cut straight through to the simple truth of things. One of the quotes that has had the most profound and lasting effect on me comes from Gandhi. He said "You must be the change you wish to see in the world".
Welcome, come in and sit down. Make yourself uncomfortable. Have you ever greeted a guest at your door that way? I haven’t either, but maybe we should consider doing so. We usually want our guests to be comfortable. But offering discomfort might be a better gift. Why? Personal growth comes when ...
Many people have tried to put the Law of Attraction to work without success. While “The Secret” has done more than any other body of work to help people manifest their dreams, there are 2 missing steps to the formula. Here are the steps to putting the Law Of Attraction to work successfully in your life and the 2 missing steps to make it work for you each and every time. 1. Everything Starts With a Dream What are the things you really want to have, do or become in your life. Start by just making a list of the dreams you wish you could fulfill in your life.
One of the quickest ways out of stress is to learn how to fully experience the present moment - that’s the one that is happening right now! Most stress that people feel in their body is generated from a thought about something that has either already happened and is now over, or something that they anticipate will happen in the future, and may also never happen!
"To be on a quest is nothing more or less than to become an asker of questions." - Sam Keen I think we all get that questions are a really powerful communication tool when we’re dealing with others, but the impact of the questions we ask ourselves usually gets overlooked, and often this can be the cause of many unnecessary difficulties in our lives. Every moment of every day we are shaping our own experience of life through our perceptual filters and the meanings we attach to what’s going on around us. I believe the single most empowering skill you can develop is the skill of cons
In one of my personal development workshops I get my students to close their eyes and imagine, in vivid detail, one of their happiest memories, and to fully re-living it in that moment. It is amazing to witness the instant transformation in their facial expressions and body language as their nervous systems kick back into happy mode. I then ask them what actually changed in the outside world while they were doing that.
What are some of the common thoughts that flash across your mind? Are they positive and uplifting, or do they focus on what is wrong and bring up visions of worst case scenarios? For many of us, our thoughts are a mixture of both. But, the real question is which ones do we focus on and believe.
Masterminds bring a two or more people together for a common purpose and betterment of each other. Masterminding lets businesses, business owners and others network, brainstorm, and connect to help improve their businesses. Some direct benefits of masterminding…. Specialized Knowledge: No one knows everything and this can often be a reason one a person either falls short or fails at their desired goal. People often believe that if they don’t have the knowledge or even the necessary education they won’t be able to achieve their goal or dream.
I recently attended a conference for women business owners and ran into a woman I had not seen for some time. She looked a little unhappy when I approached her. I asked her if everything was going well and she shared with me that she had just lost a big client. In fact, this big client was more than 50% of her business. Wow! I’d be upset too. She was in the process of figuring out what to do next to rebuild her business back to a successful place.
As a life coach who has had more than 8300 over the last 16 years, I can tell you with certainty that three simple shifts in your point of view will cure your recession blues, lift your spirits and get you back on the road to a personal recession recovery plan.
"Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.” - Benjamin Disraeli I believe we are living in very exciting times when it comes to our understanding of what makes us truly happy in the long term. Up until relatively recently (well, about 10 years ago actually) the general perception of the personal development and self-growth movement was pretty much split down the middle.
If you are an emotional eater, an overeater, a compulsive eater or a constant snacker, you’re probably also an expert dieter. Most women don’t just struggle to lose weight once. We struggle to lose weight, to keep it off, to maintain hard-ea ed healthy habits, and—too often—we struggle to lose the weight all over again because we’ve regained it. If you want to avoid the weight loss roller coaster—and the emotional turmoil that can accompany it, ask yourself the following four questions before you start moving forward with your weight loss resolutions. 1.
If you are like most people you're familiar with finally resolving to make a positive change in your life. Perhaps start a new diet, get a new job, start working out etc. In the past you started with the best of intentions, determined that this time you would succeed. If you were/are one of the fortunate few, you succeeded. However, most likely you were one of the over 95% of the people that studies show are unable to make a positive change through will power alone. That means that almost 95% of the population is destined to fail.
As a radio show host on my shows, I’ve learned to ask questions and discover the magnificence of whom my guests are. When creating a radio show that provides a platform for my niche and to help those who are interested in what I have to offer. I’ve also discovered two ways to accomplish attracting the right listeners. First is the hard way which is to educate and inform the general public with content hoping that the audience responds and then makes the effort to keep listening and have it make a difference in their lives.
Life skills have been defined by WHO as âabilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday lifeâ. They represent the psycho-social skills that determine valued behaviour and include reflective skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking, to personal skills such as self-awareness, and to interpersonal skills. Practicing life skills leads to qualities such as self-esteem, sociabilit
Well all have those people in life who are just a little bit wearing on the spirit. You know who I mean. Their intentions are good, yet they always manage to stir things up. Sometimes it feels like you can’t get anything done when they’re around. They’re criticizing, they’re correcting, they’re ...
"Joy is a net of love in which you can catch souls.” - Mother Teresa There are two things that have always astounded me about us Human Beings. The first is just how complex we can be with our thinking and behaviour.
Living a healthy lifestyle is often not as hard as we make it out to be. We all know what to do, but just can’t seem to bring ourselves to do it consistently. Instead of engaging in the activities that will ensure our health, which ensures our quality of life, we prefer to medicate or ignore. Bad habits and healthy habits have one thing in common…they are both habits, and habits can be changed, eliminated, or created. Here are the 4 Healthy Habits We Love to Hate. Habit #1: Drink!
She was there again. The Lady Who Pushes All My Buttons was at the Y. The Situation - Picture this, if you will: A crowded locker room with limited space. Several towels scattered on the floor. A rolling carry-on duffel bag, upended, with shoes, makeup and exercise clothing strewn on the floor and bench. Three outfits in dry cleaner bags, hung on various lockers. A woman in soup-can sized rollers, applying makeup, while asking three fellow gym-goers "Does this dress make my boobs look too big? You know, in this town people think you're a slut if you show too much cleavage."
We human beings are social beings. Oftentimes, we forget that we are social beings. It is important to remember this, not just when there is a loss of some sort in our lives but all the time. When you are too busy pursuing your career and financial goals, you loose your ability to connect with other human beings. How are your social connections? If you work for a large company, are you aware that company is a social system? Your community is a social system and if you have a large enough family, that is a social system. Are you aware of the social system that you belong to?
As much as I love the holidays, there is something special and peaceful about the few days before they arrive. The quiet you feel just before all of the preparation begins and the visitors arrive. Before the anticipation of a meal well cooked and the welcomed sounds and smells of the holidays.
Looking at the number of books and articles on organization and time management available today, you'd think the market for productivity strategies was close to saturation, and the demand for more would be dropping. But this doesn’t seem to be true. Instead, it seems like a new book, article, or seminar on productivity comes out every day. Why are people still hungry for productivity advice, even with so many techniques on the market?
The recipe for success is completely an inside job. Here is the simplest plan for creating a new habit and completely transforming yourself: 1. Have a new thought 2. Repeat that thought 3. Create an action consistent with that new thought 4. Repeat that action 5. Repeat the thought and the action until it becomes a habit 6. That new habit of thought and habit of action will become a belief for your The new belief will be a new foundation in your life upon which all new thoughts and actions will be based...and that is transformation.
Are you a woman who wants to have it all? Do you have a desire to experience your life and business on your own terms? I've certainly felt that way in the past, however I've come to realize that I have to choose what's most important to me right now in my life. I know that over time, my "energy" for different interests will change and grow into new areas. It's essential for Smart Women to recognize and embrace new passions that may develop over time.
Are you one of the Millions of business professionals who unknowingly run your personal or professional life blindly, or in the dark? This might seem like something that some “other” business owner or executive does, but certainly not you!
Have you found that while aligning your life that you have shifted but your resources have not? One of the great joys of being a conscious entrepreneur is that you absolutely know that you can create the lifestyle you desire. When I consciously made the decision to not only align my consciousness with what is for my highest good but to align my lifestyle and business as well, I was choosing to create the best life I could live.
As an Inspired Action life coach, I support people with the process of transmuting their anger and moving back towards being happy, positive, fulfilled, and satisfied. This is not always easy to do, but many successfully happy people have created strategies that assist them in moving out of the anger and back to happiness again. Here are three of those strategies.
"Be like water, you pour water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You pour water into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Be like water."rn- Bruce Lee Reflections I remember vividly being 14 years old in my high school swim team. What stood out the most about those days were the morning training sessions held at 6am every day. I remember arriving at the pool and staring at the surface of the water, amazed at its stillness – without a single ripple of movement. There was something that just intrigued me about seeing that still, ripple-free and calm body of water.
In 2009, we’ve seen some extraordinary events and were dealt some harsh pills to swallow. We’ve experienced great hope and happiness as well as great pain and suffering. We’ve felt the highs of hope and the results of recession. There are many lessons to learn.
Have you ever been asked the question, “What’s your aim in life?” Have you ever understood what the person asking the question meant? It’s quite a powerful question because it is a pretty direct and incisive way to ascertain what your purpose in life is and what you aim to achieve as a goal. ...
