The infamous Google Page Rank (PR) has become this nemeses in the world of SEO. No doubt that website traffic is the new world 'currency' and with Google dominating internet traffic we need to play by their rules. Page Rank(PR) is not nearly as complicated as most experts make it out to be. Yes, there are some complicated algorithms involved but that does not mean you have to get bogged down with the detail.

To increase Google page rank you will have to focus on both areas of search engine optimization. You will have to focus on both on-site and off-site factors as they both play an important part in increasing PR. Although on-site factors dominated the search engines back in the late 1990's it has very little value today. It account for around 10% of your page rank.

I've reduced the complexities of increasing Google page rank to 3 simple steps. If you focus on these 3 simple concepts you will increase your page rank. Most the most part SEO is a science.

Step 1
The first thing you have to do is to optimize the content on your site or more specifically for the web page that you want to increase the Google page rank on. Google is getting better and better at finding which content is most relevant to specific search terms.

If your page is optimized for a specific keyword, then you need to make sure that your content is very relevant to that keyword. Don't stuff a page full of that keyword. Instead, use variations of the keyword and create content that is natural and highly relevant. You also need to make sure that your content is unique and fresh. Duplicate content does get penalized on PR.

Step 2
Once you've got unique and highly relevant content, you need to make sure that you get the on-page basics right. Tags are not that important anymore, but make sure you at least have a description and some keywords in your meta tags. Having proper H1 tags for titles and using bold and italics naturally shows good practice rather than giving you an SEO advantage.

On-page factors these days are more about having a god linking structure. If you use Wordpress this is quite easy as it has a great navigation structure. Make sure you add a xml sitemap, a privacy policy and a contact link. Adding 5 to 10 links to authority sites in y niche is also important.

Step 3
While steps 1 and 2 are quite easy and part of the natural process of building a site, step 3 is where it all happens. 90% of your Google PR will be determined by backlinks. SEO today is all about building backlinks.

Once you've got your on-page factors there you need to dedicate all your SEO time on building back links. There are 3 factors that are important in getting back links to have as much value as possible.

a) Page Rank - the higher the PR of the page that links to you, the more valuable
b) 1-Way links - they are natural and reciprocal (2-way) links does not have much value anymore
c) Relevancy - getting links from sites that are relevant to your niche/category carries more value

So, if you focus on getting high PR, 1-way links from relevant sites you will get maximum 'juice' from your backlinks and increase your Google page rank faster than anything else. It's all about links, links and more links. That's it. Get the back links and you will get the page rank to give you high Google rankings.
