Get Real! #1: Play to win
Get real with yourself, get real with others, and get real with the world around you. That’s it; there’s nothing else to it—call it what it is. Wishful thinking on your part is not going to improve your current financial situation, and the sooner you get real, the sooner you’ll position yourself for becoming effective in the new world of money.
Get Real! #2: Get real with money
If you want to get real money, start by getting real with money. America has a huge financial mess on its hands, and we all need to roll up our sleeves and get busy fixing it. We’re living in an unprecedented day and age of prosperity, but there are dark clouds on the horizon. It’s time to get real with the facts.
Get Real! #3: Compress time
You’re in a hurry. You don’t have time to go back to school to learn what you need to know about money. Your time is valuable, limited, and precious. Get real about the fact that you are growing older by the minute and that you need easy-to-understand and simple-to-implement solutions. You need to learn how to compress time and get done in three years what will take the undisciplined, the long-ranger, the know-it-all, or the financially clueless person years to do.
Get Real! #4: Eliminate risk
Learning how to make real money, how to invest it properly, and how to use money wisely isn’t risky—despite what some might have told you. Developing wealth is risk-free, as you’ll learn in this book. Learning how money really works and what to do with your money isn’t risky—it’s smart.
Get Real! #5: Act on opportunities
There has never been a more opportune time in recorded civilization to achieve financial success, as well as success in our personal lives, our health, or our careers. We simply have more opportunities, more choices, and more information than any other generation in recorded history—and we’re living longer.
Get Real! #6: Be positive—yes, you CAN do it, too
Keep this in mind: If someone else can achieve financial success, you can, too. Whatever you see other people accomplish, once you put your mind to it and make the decision, you can do it, too.
Get Real! #7: Take seven minutes a day
I first learned the secret behind the 7 Minute Secret when I was ten years old. My mentor at the time was Mr. Favreau, my guitar teacher. He showed me one idea that has transformed my life forever. I’ll never forget our conversation during my first guitar lesson. He said, “Jimmy, you want to become a great guitar player, don’t you?”
“Yes, of course,” I said.
My teacher said, “There is one secret, and one secret only, you’ll need to know for this to happen. You must practice seven minutes a day, every day, no days off, and then you will reach your goal.”
I said to myself, “No problem; I’ve got this licked. I can easily do seven minutes a day, every day, no days off.” Here’s what I discovered in the process. I committed myself to applying myself seven minutes a day, every day, no days off, but what my mentor didn’t tell me was what would happen. After the seven minutes were up—I kept on going. The first seven minutes were the hardest part. My fingers hurt, and I wanted to go outside and play with my friends. But after just a few minutes, something special started to happen. I worked past the hard part, my attention was activated, and I just kept practicing, every day, no days off. What my teacher knew was that I had an attention span that would last thirty to forty minutes and that if he could get me through the first seven minutes, and if I did it every day, no days off, the rest would take care of itself—and it did. I developed the habit of daily applying myself to my goal, and I went on to become an excellent guitar player. I have since used the 7 Minute Secret in other areas of my life where I wanted to accomplish goals—and you can use the 7 Minute Secret to discover how to Get Real! Money just as I have.
