Stop Smoking : Why Quit Smoking

You wouldnt give your child tar, benzene, or nicotine.

You wouldnt allow your best friend to intake carbon monoxide, ammonia, dimethylnitrosamine, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide, and acrolein.

And yet there is a strong complacency to tobacco and the dangers of smoking. I do not intend to offend anyone, or hurt anyone, but only to bring the truth out in the open. If we try to hide, cover, or make things seem different than they really are, how can we progress? We all have things in our life that we can improve. Myself included. Let us all help each other.

Most of this complacency stems from a lack of knowledge to the serious health damage that tobacco products have. While we all know that there is a surgeon generals carcinogenic warning on the outside of every package, there is still more to know.

Did you know?
The U.S. Surgeon Generals Report says that "there are over 4,000 chemical compounds in tobacco smoke." And over 40 of those chemicals can cause cancer!

And even with that knowledge, I read that the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention has calculated that there are about 45 to 50 million smokers today, just in America alone.

Quitting smoking is not easy. I know. I have helped many friends to quit smoking. You have to change social and behavior habits and overcome your nerves. Everyone knows that nicotine is addictive. Nicotine first stimulates, then paralyzes the nerves.

As you try to quit, there are the withdrawal symptoms and urges to smoke. But when you put that up to the stack of facts that show how dangerous smoking is - it only makes sense to put forth the effort.

According to the Journal of American Medical Association, "stopping smoking at any age reduces the progression of lung function loss and also provides an immediate improvement in lung function."

There are so many reasons to quit smoking
- Avoid cancer and heart attack
- Avoid emphysema
- Avoid impotence and infertility
- Avoid premature wrinkling of the skin
- Save money
- Get rid of the bad odor
- and so many more motivational reasons.

"Three key lifestyle approaches must be addressed in preventing heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and lung disease: smoking, diet and exercise." - World Health Forum, 1991.

I am a health and wellness consultant, but I will not tell you when to quit smoking or what method to use. I will not tell you which method is the most effective. Each person is different. The most important thing is that you find some method, keep at it and stay determined.
