Water makes up 70 percent of our bodies. It is more a part of us than any other substance, and is essential for all life on the planet. Knowing this, there has always been a push to find the cleanest, most pure water available in order to get the best benefits from that water. The exact amount of water that people should be drinking each day has changed over the years, but the idea of keeping our bodies well hydrated at all times has remained constant.

Why We Need Water

Besides the obvious reason for needing water so that our bodies don’t simply dry up and stop functioning, there are many reasons that water should be consumed regularly every day in order to get the best health benefits from it. Generous amounts of water are essential for our organs to function at their best. Continuous water intake keeps the liver filtering the blood to keep us well and burning fat to give us energy throughout the day. Without these functions, we may get sick more often and may not have the energy to do the things we enjoy.

Water is used by the body as a way to clean the toxins out of the system. This water flushes waste and unnecessary chemicals out of the body, leaving us cleaner and healthier than before. To keep this cycle going, water must be coming in regularly and in healthy amounts. Without this continuous stream of water, our organs have to work harder; our energy flags and we simply can’t concentrate as well as we would with a steady stream of water.

For kids, the need is even greater- babies are born with a higher percentage of water in their bodies than adults - 80 percent. Kids also lose a great deal of water throughout the day through physical activity. They may not always stop for something to drink, leaving them vulnerable to dehydration and a loss of energy and concentration.

Don’t Wait For Thirst

Many people want to drink more water, but wait until they are thirsty to do so. When someone has the sensation of thirst, it means that person has already lost more than 1 percent of the water in their body. This thirst-and-hydrate cycle is not conducive to keeping the body in its best condition. To keep the nutrients coming in, the immune system at its best, and the body in its best possible condition, water should be consumed all day, every day - even before we feel thirsty.

Taking in enough water to keep our bodies and minds functioning at their best is just the first step. It is also important to drink the cleanest water that we can. The health problems that can come from impure water, as well as the toxic chemicals that are added to it to keep it “clean,” are enough to go against many of the health benefits we seek. To get the best of the health benefits, use water that has been effectively filtered for impurities.

This can be done by installing a drinking water filter on the taps in our homes. To get even more benefits, filters can be installed on the shower heads as well. This lessens the amount of chlorine that will be absorbed by the skin and leave us with more toxins. Other filter options include whole house filters that will purify every drop of water that comes into the house. With all of the filtering options available, there is no longer any reason not to have plenty of pure, healthy water available.
