One of the great advantages of visiting an online casino is the wide range of casino games and variations on them. There is something for everyone. However, the wide range of games can also be a disadvantage and can be too overwhelming, especially for newbies.

Don't worry, this is easily solved: by becoming familiar with the many casino games and their rules. Although this is also covered in our various game guides, we have taken the liberty of creating a bite-sized overview of the most popular online casino games so that you can quickly get started in the gambling palace yourself. However, we still recommend you read reviews of casino games at https://veritop.com to make sure you get what you’re looking for.

Online Casino Games Categories

There are basically two categories into which casino games can be divided: table games and games that do not require this piece of furniture, the so-called non-table games.

The casino games under the first heading can again be split into card games (blackjack, poker, baccarat), dice games (craps) and other types of casino games (roulette). Under the second denominator we include gaming machines, such as slot machines (slots), video machines (video poker) and games of chance that use random numbers, such as keno, for example.

What are casino table games?

By classic table games we mean non-automated casino games played at a gaming table and supervised by an expert croupier. Of course, the dealers in the online casino are computerized. However, should you wish to work with a real croupier, the live casino offers a solution. These are casino table games:

  • Card games (blackjack, poker, baccarat)
  • Dice games (craps)
  • Other types of casino games (roulette)

Card games

Baccarat, blackjack and poker. Just three table games that are among the most popular casino games. However, they have something else in common: they are all card games. A little introduction to this category of casino games:

Baccarat

A fast-paced card game, also known as "Punto Banco," that requires no strategic knowledge. The goal is to predict the correct outcome of the game. Three different outcomes can be gambled on in advance: a win for the player (also known as 'punto'), a win for the bank ('banco') and a tie ('tie').

Each hand consists of a minimum of two and a maximum of three cards. The value of the cards is as follows:

  • Ace: 1;
  • 2-9: numerical value;
  • 10, Jack, Queen, Lord: 0.

The total value of a hand in baccarat can never exceed 10. If it does, then the 10 is forfeited. A useful mnemonic device: if the sum of the cards exceeds 10, only the number on the right counts. For example, if you are dealt two cards with a value of 8 and 4 points respectively, you score 12 points and only the 2 counts. Ultimately, you must make sure that your hand comes as close to 9 as possible, without exceeding it.

Blackjack

By far the most popular card game you can find in American casinos. The ultimate goal is also quite simple: to decide the duel with the bank (the dealer) in your favor by getting your hand as close to 21 as possible, without going over. Hence, blackjack is also referred to as "blackjack", the predecessor of the current version of the popular game.

In blackjack, it's all about points. Each hand consists of a minimum of two cards, which can then be added to get closer to 21: so-called 'hitting'.  In blackjack, all numbers have their own numerical value and the King, Queen and Jack are worth ten points. An Ace is worth 1 or 11 points, depending on which of these two values gets you closer to 21. For a more detailed explanation of this popular game of chance, our blackjack game guide will help.

Poker

Without bluffs, one of the most intriguing casino games of the moment. There are many variations of this game, but today Texas Hold'em is the most widely played version. The goal of poker is to win, at the expense of your tablemates, the pot (which is played during multiple rounds of betting). This can be done by having the best possible combination of five cards at the end of the game or by bluffing your opponents beforehand so that everyone passes: this way, you can still win with an inferior hand.

The game is largely about deception: you don't want the competition to know what your hand is so that you can take the pot with a good combination of cards or a bluff. This makes poker a very entertaining and strategic casino game. For more information on this popular game, please refer to our poker game guide.

Dice games

In addition to casino games in which cards are used, there are also dice games, such as the popular craps. Here you play with two dice against the bank. The goal is to guess which numbers are thrown. The main bets are placed in advance on whether the thrower ("shooter") wins ("Pass line") or loses ("Don't pass").

If 11 or 7 is rolled on the first roll, then both the player in question and all tablemates who have bet in front of him win. However, if the first roll is a 2, 3 or 12, the shooter loses and the bets against the thrower on duty win. If the shooter throws something else (a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10), that becomes his point and he must make sure to do this trick again before throwing 7. The shooter keeps throwing until he has lost: then it is his left neighbor's turn.

Other types of table games

The best-known casino game that cannot be divided into any of the previously mentioned categories is roulette. This "jewel of the casino" is the crowd puller of many a gambling house and is played with a cylindrical wheel with mostly red and black squares that are marked with a specific number. On this wheel the croupier makes a ball spin, which eventually falls into one of these boxes.

The goal is to predict exactly where this bullet will stick. You can therefore bet in advance on different outcomes: specific numbers, groups of numbers, the exact color (black or red) and even or odd. These bets are then placed on the famous green mat, after which the croupier lets the ball do its work. Rien ne va plus.

What are Casino Non-Table Games?

As the name suggests, these are casino games that are not played at a table. These include:

  • Slot machines
  • Video slot machines
  • Games of chance that use random numbers, such as keno

Slots

A hefty spin, only to hear a large amount of coin clatter. For many gambling enthusiasts, this is the ultimate. Hence, slots, as they are called in English, are also extremely popular. Add to that the fact that they are accessible, simple and easy to use and their raging popularity is more than explainable.

While the range of slot machines available in land-based casinos is already vast and varied, it is even more so online. Every day game developers develop new, digital slots. And the range of games on offer offers something for everyone: from slots based on contemporary blockbusters (Hangover, Iron Man) and music bands (Guns N'Roses) to worlds, brilliantly fixed or not, such as Starburst and Gonzo's Quest. On OnlineCasinoGids.com we therefore devote a lot of attention to reviews on the aforementioned game producers and their latest gems.

Although there are several variants under the heading of

video poker

Everything in the game can be traced back to real poker. The goal is therefore the same as in the popular table game: take the pot with your (final) hand.

This time, however, it's not a tough battle at the green table, but rather a personal struggle: you have to remain with as strong a card combination as possible. In video poker, you don't have to beat another hand, but you are rewarded according to the value of your final hand and the pay table. The stronger your hand, the higher the prize!

Casino games with random numbers

In addition to slot machines, there are other casino games that can be referred to as non-table games: the so-called games where random numbers are brought out. This includes, for example, keno, a type of Lotto.

The aim of the game, which is also called a Chinese lottery, is to guess which numbers (1 to 80) will eventually fall: you have to enter at least four numbers and a maximum of ten. An automated system then takes care of the verdict. The payout depends on your predictive abilities. So if you're a real Nostradamus, this is definitely for you!
