It is understood that this laboratory named McLean conducted research on the two coronaviruses SARS and MERS that have emerged as early as 2016.

After the outbreak of 2019-nCoV Pneumonia, researchers in the laboratory compared the genes of the New Coronavirus and the SARS virus and found that there are many similarities between the two, so they began to prepare for virus research experiments. The experimenter used alpaca as the experimental object and injected new coronavirus into one of the alpaca named winter. In the subsequent test, two antibodies were produced in winter. The first antibody is similar to the antibody produced in humans, and the second antibody is significantly smaller in size, but its stability is much stronger than the former, which has aroused the interest of researchers.

So what is the mechanism of action of the antibody? The researchers said in a research report published on May 5 that the antibody mainly acts on the spike protein on the surface of the new coronavirus, making it unable to attach to the host cell, thus preventing the invasion and reproduction. The reason why the new coronavirus can invade the host cells in the human body is because of the presence of special spike proteins on their surface, these proteins can be combined with the signal proteins on the surface of the host cell, so the virus method opens a door as all of her genetic material is transferred to the cell for replication and reproduction.

What about the smaller antibody treatments that appear in the alpaca? The researchers said that the therapeutic effect of the antibody on alpaca is real and effective, but the effect on humans is still uncertain. Therefore, the next step will be to change the experiment target to the mouse. If the experiment is also successful, then they will find primates to continue the experiment and strive to complete all the test experiments by the end of this year.
