The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for." Maureen Dowd

Every day, people settle for less than they deserve. They are only partially living or at best living a partial life. Every human being has the potential for greatness.

Back in my early twenties I was challenged by a mentor of mine to achieve a certain target in my life. This man believed in me and considered that within the next 5 years, I had the capability to raise my standard of living and income, to a level way beyond what I was presently achieving.

I accepted the challenge and believed that the target set for me, was within my reach. Shortly afterwards we lost touch. It was around 3 years later, by chance I bumped into my old mentor.

He was glad to see me. Within 10 minutes of meeting me again he said “how are you doing with regards to the target we set some years ago?” A little stunned that he had remembered, I replied in a sheepish voice "I do not need to achieve that target anymore, I am ok with where I am at right now."

He paused for a moment looked me straight in the eye and said "Are you really ok, or have you just settled for less... less than I believe you deserve or are capable of?"

I considered his question and realised that he was right. Even though I said I was ok with what I had achieved, if I was honest, I really knew I was settling for less. It was easy to justify where I was at, it also saved me from having to face the prospect of failure in pursuit of a higher goal.

As we parted he left me with these words "The greatest danger about setting and achieving goals in your life is not that you aim to high and miss... it is that you aim to low and hit your target."

Consider your life, you are capable of so much, however are you settling for less and convincing yourself that this is your lot? You are a wonderful person, endowed with great gifts, you are talented and extremely capable, why settle for a life of mediocrity when a life of abundance awaits you.

Do not settle for less, do not deny yourself the life you truly deserve. Life has so much more to offer, if you only move forward in faith and knowledge that you will one day realise your goals and aspirations. No matter how high you have set them... NOW! That's AIM Thinking.

Adopt an AIM mindset in all areas of your life and have an AIM day.
