The direction in which a person sleeps or does other prolonged activities is very important. Each person has his or her own energy, which in Feng-Shui is called a number of “Gua”, also known as your “Ming Gua”. It is easily calculated. Based on that number, people are further separated into two types: “eastern” and “western” (but this has nothing to do with hemispheres of the planet). Each person also has four favorable and four adverse directions.

You can do the simplest calculations by yourself. For example you can calculate your "Gua number" and determine which type you are. For this purpose, you have to add every single number in your birth year. Do not forget that in Feng-Shui the New Year starts on February the 4th, therefore those who are born before February 4th must add numbers of the previous year. For example, if you were born in March 1971: 1+9+7+1=18, further 1+8=9. Then for women: add 4 and for men: subtract 11. Therefore a woman who was born in 1971 will have a "Gua number" 4 (9+4=13, 1+3=4) and man born in the same year will have "Gua number" 2 (9-11=2).

"Western people" are those who have "Gua number" of 1, 3, 4 and 9. "Eastern people" are: 2,5,6,7 and 8. Favorable directions for Western people are North, South, West and South-West. Adverse directions are East, North-East, North-West and South-East. And of course it is the other way around for Eastern people. If spouses belong to different types of people, then the head of the family gets the direction based on his type.

All the instructions given in this article are very general for all the people and belong, as I have mentioned, to a symbolical Feng-Shui. They are only an addition to very meticulous calculations that a Feng-Shui consultant is usually performing and more often they are there to caution against negative energy. Using only these instructions, you would not be able to change the circumstances of your life and to define how well the house suits you and your family.

And when we talk about a specific house, it is necessary to make calculations based on the exact direction of the house and the year the house was built. Further it is necessary to calculate every room, including the bedroom and your specific "Gua number" and to take into account specific energies that are entering your bedroom.

Wishing you happiness, good health and sweet dreams!
