1. Understand This Is An Unprecedented Event

While it's completely true that we have no control over what's happening, we do have control over our response to it. Normalizing what's going on around us can be a good way to internally process and deal with things.

2. Consider Making A Schedule

You will want to try to make a schedule if you find it useful. You'll want to try to maintain some level of flexibility with your schedule. If schedules don't work for you, that's not a problem. Only you can tell what kind of structure works best for you and your recovery efforts.

3. Speak With All Of Your Healthcare Providers

Try to speak with some providers in your area. You will find different providers to have different levels of availability. However, a lot more mental health professionals are offering telehealth services. That way, you can get somewhat quick availability. If you are in distress and need immediate help, you can call on a lot of hotlines that can give you someone to speak with. Dealing with mental distress is something many suffer from so know you aren't alone.

4. Be Mindful Of Social Media

You should try to be thoughtful of social media. While technology has been prioritized in society, it can negatively impact you in some ways. There is such thing as having too much exposure to technology. It can overwhelm us to the point where we are too stimulated. There is diet culture that is showing itself everywhere across all social media. With everyone seemingly discussing quarantine snacks and having influencers push all kinds of new products on you daily. While it can be healing to expose yourself to humor and to make light of the situation, normalizing diet culture can have the opposite effect. You'll want to pay attention to how you are using and engaging with social media.

5. Check Your Emotions

You should aim to give yourself smaller breaks throughout the day. Put your time and energy into doing activities that you find healing.

6. Take Care Of Your Mental Health

While some may be doing great things like learning a new language or instrument, some of us are simply looking to mentally survive. That's not a problem. Know that you aren't alone and a lot of others are feeling the same way. Our culture tends to force people into overworking and thinking they aren't being productive. It's perfectly fine to give yourself some time to take a mental break from it all.

Keep in mind, your eating habits and even your exercise habits are likely to look very different during this unprecedented time. This is perfectly fine and you shouldn't worry about it.
