Love your neighbor as yourself
Easier said than done!
What exactly does it mean?
Well, it seems simple. Basically, “yourself” comes first! So, you are expected to first love yourself and then love your neighbor.
Does it mean that you cannot love another if you don’t love yourself? Apparently not!
What about a narcissist who seems to be in a successful relationship?
Isn’t a narcissist someone who is in love with a false image of him or herself? Then, how is it that some narcissists still enjoy a lasting relationship?
The answer resides in the wonderful maxim: it takes two to tango!
A narcissist may enjoy a wonderful relationship with a masochist.
The narcissist has perfected the art of taking without giving. They can’t listen, share, appreciate or be thankful. They are very demanding. They are usually very charming and know how to use their charm.
The masochist is someone who takes pleasure in being subjected to pain or humiliation especially by a love object. They take pleasure in being abused or dominated.
If you find yourself in a relationship with someone who is always hurting your feelings, run, run and run, unless you are a masochist, in which case you have found everlasting happiness!
Your union fits squarely within the tiny exception that confirms the rule –
Love your neighbor as your (buried) self
