Motivation techniques are often omitted from sales team training. Practical sales skills training is easier to present, and doesn’t require the same research and preparation time. Many sales managers and small business sales directors just don’t have the time to focus on how to motivate employees. Motivating sales people requires regular blasts of effective training, belief changing viewpoints, and support and ideas on goal setting. All this takes time and more urgent tasks pile up on a mangers desk and take priority.

The sales motivation techniques offered here will give you a sales motivation program for your sales team using a minimum amount of time. It will show you how I train my sales teams with a really effective way to use the free resources that are available on the Internet. The great part is, and it won’t cost you a penny. This sales motivation training technique will also get your sales team’s attention from the start and motivate them to do a lot of the work. Here’s how i did it with my working sales teams.

How to motivate your employees for free

First we collected a list of free online sales motivation resources available on the Internet. You probably have some links saved in your favourites list. Your sales team will have some as well. As a starting point, imagine if you had a list of links to all those sales and motivation websites you already know about, all in one easy to access place. Then we added all the other sites we came across that had good sales training on motivation techniques.

Find the best place to store the list

Then we selected the best place to store the list of sales motivation and information websites. You want somewhere that is easy to access, easy to navigate, and is accessible by all the sales team. It must also be somewhere that the list can be easily updated. If your organisation has a company intranet then that may be a good place to start building your sales motivation training resource. Shared drives and folders are another good place to park the list of links. You might think of other ideas such as sending it out in a company sales newsletter, or simply emailing the list to your sales team on a regular basis, that will work just as well.

Remember to update your list regularly

We update our list of links to websites regularly and it’s now building into an enormous resource of sales training and motivation techniques. To make the list more effective and useful make your descriptions and comments comprehensive. Think what could happen if you expand and develop the use of this free resource. What if you included more people within your organisation and expanded the topics covered by this list of websites. I’ve seen some companies where all training and product knowledge updates are stored in a shared sales folder and it works really well as a reference point.

Add a timescale to the training schedule

My sales team now have set times of the week which we have found make the best use of the web link list. There a certain times of the week when a quick burst of motivation, a new sales training idea, or examples of proven marketing techniques, are most effective. Here’s the schedule I use with my working sales teams.

Monday morning after a weekend break 15 minutes on a good website, with short sharp self motivation techniques, can get you into a selling state.

Midweek we delegate to 2 sales people the task of investing 20 minutes looking for industry and marketplace updates. This gives us credibility with customers and often reasons for contacting them.

Friday morning we have found clicking on websites with time management, or prospecting tips, which can be used the following week, can have a great effect.

When you have a tough day facing difficult objections and can’t close sales, then a sales training site is a good way to finish the day.

These are examples of how to motivate employees using the free web resources list. You can adapt these ideas, develop them, and find how to motivate your employees using a list of good Internet links.
