One self help method for achieving specific goals is the use of self hypnosis. First, don't get that picture of a guy walking around acting like a chicken in public. This is not like that in any way. Self hypnosis is a way of relaxing the entire body and making the subconscious more receptive to suggestions.

The Two Don'ts of Self Hypnosis

1. Don't Materialize

It's important not to be pushy. Self Hypnosis is a process and won't completely change you or your life in one session. It's natural process that takes a little time. Look at it this way, it took all those years to program your mind of what you think now. It can't be changed in one day. Let it happen as it happens.

2. Don't Be Analytical

As humans we like to be analytical. We have a need to know why things happen and why they are the way they are. Don't try to do that with Self Hypnosis. Your focus should be on your desire not why your desire comes to be.

Now it's crucial that you remember these don't while you go through the next 4 steps that will ultimately change your life.

1. Relax

Relaxing is the key element here. Give yourself between 15 and 30 minutes or whatever time you can get away. This depends on your personal schedule. Then get to a place where you won't be interrupted or distracted. Get your body fully relaxed and the mind will follow suit. This may take some time and practice, but is well worth the effort to learn. Once you learn relax properly, you will be able to get there in a shorter time.

2. Reaching a Hypnotic State

Once you have relaxed, you will need to deepen your state of relaxation. Do not make the mistake of 'looking for' the sign that you have reached a hypnotic state. IN other words, don't try too hard to get there. One of the best ways to deepen your relaxed condition is to use the countdown technique.

Once you have become relaxed, start to mentally count backward from some number like 20 or 100, depending on you. With each count, imagine yourself going deeper and deeper. Somewhere in this phase, you will probably reach a hypnotic state, though you may not know it.

3. Speaking To Your Subconscious Mind

You are now in a state where your subconscious mind is ready to listen. Start using a positive affirmation relating to your goal.

This affirmation would be something like this, "I am going to _________, I am _______, or I can __________." Putting your desire in the blanks. Remember to keep your affirmations positive, and use a direct voice. This is a serious matter and should sound that way to your subconscious mind.

4. Reaching Reality

Here you are going to bring yourself out of self hypnosis. You are going to count from 1 to 10 slowly and imagine yourself coming closer and closer to reality. Once you reach ten keep your eyes closed and stay still. Give yourself time to come out of the trance.

When you use this technique properly, you will find your results to be astounding and positive. There is no danger at all with self-hypnosis.
