Hi there, as you see, my name is Charmaine. I am married to my most fantastic & supportive husband, Michael, and have a daughter & son who are both out of the home & making lives of their own.

You’re probably wondering why I decided to become a member of this site, so let me tell you. I am a professional nurse by qualification, but moved into industry many years ago. I have become somewhat of a specialist in my field now – that is Occupational Health, Safety & Environment. I worked myself up through the industrial corporate world here in South Africa, to eventually become the Group Risk manager for an International Company in the frozen foods industry.

Then, about 4 years ago, I was retrenched from the company because I refused to relocate to the Head Office in Johannesburg, from our home on the Cape South Coast. Unfortunately, Michael has his own business there which would have meant me being away from him for extended periods of time.

So…I started my own Consultancy, working from home! My clients were industrial customers based in the towns around my home, as well as the company that had retrenched me – how ironic is that?

Working from home was great – my own hours, the freedom of choice as to who I wished to work with, and the money was very good too!

But, then the world-wide recession hit – and my clients started cutting back on making use of my services. The lucrative incomes I was used to, reduced quickly to a mere trickle. Fortunately, my personal debt was at a minimum, so that was not really a concern, but…I still needed to make up my contribution towards the household expenses every month.

Well, Michael had been actively growing an online business in his spare time, marketing affiliate products, but I had never really taken much notice of what he was doing (I really had no need to!). But, when I began to see no “out” to my predicament, I began to look closer at what he was doing.

Other than enjoying the benefits of the extra income he was generating with his online business, which he was mainly using to fund his “biking” lifestyle…don’t get me wrong, he’s not a typical, bad-to-the-bone biker, but he is the Chairman of a motorcylist club in our area, and us being able to have the odd get away as well, I never really knew exactly what he was doing to make the money!

Anyway, I soon realised that I should be asking him to teach me!

Which he graciously began to do, but – while Michael is a fantastic person, he is not the most patient of teachers…umm, or maybe I’m not the best student! Either way, my progress was a little slow & sometimes I battled to get my head around some of the stuff he was teaching.

However, I did persevere…so did he, and at long last I have a pretty good grasp of what an online home business is all about. So, now I’m really getting going with it – for me!

It is my sincere hope that by sharing what I’ve discovered that you will also be able to become independant and more empowered as a woman. I certainly hope that my conributions here will help you achieve that - be it in the field of working from home, or health related matters (reflected in my websites I have listed in my profile).
