Dr Irina Webster is a medical doctor from Australia with a special interest in eating disorders.
She is an author of books and treatment programs for eating disorders. She is also a public speaker and health educator and foremost expert in treating eating disorders with the power of neuroplasticity and mindful awareness therapy.
For the last 8 years Dr Webster and her husband William BA have been doing eating disorder research and investigating how neuroplasticity and mindful awareness can influence eating disorder recovery.
The result of these studies show that re-wiring the brain (what we call neuroplasticity) is incremental in the process of recovery and even curing eating disorders. In fact without this re-wiring the prospects of recovery are very slim.
Dr Irina Webster has a unqiue position as a eating disorder expert, not only is she a medical doctor but she is also a recovered eating disorder sufferer herself. This gives her a whole different insight into eating disorders that other practitioners do not have. You can say she has seen both sides of the fence.
Dr Irina stumbled on the power of using neuroplasticity and mindful awareness to treat her own anorexia-bulimia when all conventional treatments failed.
Although Dr Irina started her medical career as a women and children's doctor, she maintained a interest in eating disorders because of her own problem. Like most eating disorder sufferers Dr Irina was most reluctant to tell anyone about her ED, as it was not a good look for a young doctor.
Now Dr Irina is helping many sufferers around the world to a better life free from their eating disorders. Her new book "Cure Your Eating Disorder, 5 Step Program to Change Your Brain: The Neuroplasticity Approach" is a breakthrough in the treatment of eating disorders.
Along with her 90 day home treatment program she is making a real difference to the lives of many people in the USA, UK, Canada, as well as her home country.
One of the major problems with conventional treatment for eating disorders is not understanding that an ED is totally based in the subconscious mind of the sufferer.
To access the subconscious mind requires a different approach than simply talking about their problem in a group therapy situation, or one on one with a therapist, or an extended stay at a clinic.
When a sufferer first started their eating problems they began to formed a set of neuronal pathways in their brain. These pathways were formed by their thoughts, actions and emotions whether real or just imagined.
These neuronal pathways are then sealed in the subconscious mind of the sufferer and everytime they encounter a trigger for their eating disorder they fire the same way trapping the sufferer in what is called a Brain Loop.
To reverse or break the Brain Loop you have to build new neuronal pathways around the old defective ones. Just as it was when the sufferer built the pathways in the first place, the only way to break the old ones is by thoughts, actions and emotions.
This is what Neuroplasticity and mindful awareness does. By using my 5 steps.
The sufferer can learn how to change their own neuronal pathways and break the brain loop.
