Upon earning her PhD, Lisa Schaefer moved to Washington to work for a federal contractor. In her spare time, she participated in writing workshops, cohosted a local cable show, and took graduate level video production courses. When a coworker masturbated in front of her and she was fired the next day, she decided it was time to produce “Budget Justified,” a movie/webisode series about the harassment she witnessed and experienced in the federal government offices.
Dr. Schaefer is launching “SmartWomen Event News,” a video news blog featuring women out on the town at intellectual events in Washington, DC. She is the founder of RoleModel Enterprises, a small business with a mission to unHollywood social media by featuring smart women. She authored “The Making of Budget Justified,” a book that goes into more detail than the movie. Other books about women in technology are in progress.
Dr. Schaefer has held national leadership positions in women’s organizations, has lobbied congress on behalf of women’s rights, and participates in several social media clubs. She has taught technology courses at community colleges and universities.
