Yesterday, my hubby walks into the lounge and announces he has completed his run…
And though it was painful, he completed it.
And he is proud of himself because he is still on track, he is being consistent and he loves it. He has a goal he is working towards reaching and though it hurts at times, he is determined to keep moving forward.
He sees himself as a champion-fighter and he is staying on course despite the pain.
That turns me on…
And it sparks a thought in my head…
A thought about consistency in business, in life, in getting results in whatever you want a result in…
Do you see what you are doing to grow your business as painful?
Or do you see the big purpose behind it all…?
Or maybe, more to the point, do you see the big purpose and at the same time, do you see it as painful?
Firstly, without a purpose, you will not find the will to keep going so there has to be a BIG DRIVE within you to keep doing the work to get results so tell me, are you clear on what that is?
Secondly, if you continue to only see the required work as painful, how long do you think you will keep doing the work for?
I can tell you right now that with a big purpose and drive behind you, you will keep going forever but if all you have is the pain and some supeficial reason why, then the resistance wil defeat you and you will stop taking action.
You will quit.
You have to think about the language you are using to describe the work…
Because it can be painful or it can be exhilarating…
It can be challenging or it can be painful…
It can be a source of pride as you see just how powerful you really are or it can be painful…
The entrepreneurs who kill it on the business front, are people who have learnt to LOVE the pain…
They have learnt to feel powerful and exhilarated and challenged and overcoming despite the pain…
And you do not hear them talk about pain…
Oh no, you hear them talk about ‘doing what they love’…
And if you are not used to this, you might think that there is no pain in the love and so you go join them to make money doing what you love but then you come up against the pain of actually doing work that you love and you think that you are doing something wrong and so you quit!
But honey, the pain gives birth to the dream…
It is like a mother who goes on to have child upon child upon child…
Yes, it is painful and yet the goal is worth it.
Once the goal, the big reason why, stops being worth it, mothers stop getting pregnant and giving birth.
Same with you. Is your big reason worth it?
You listen to a mum speak about the process of childbirth, yes there are graphic details but in some ways, it fades in the light of the new child…
We forget what it felt like and so we go on to do it again.
Speak to us in the midst of giving birth and we are likely to skin you alive for distracting us from the WORK of giving birth…
Same again with entrepreneurs that make things happen – They will not be distracted as they buckle down to do the work…
They are focused on the goal, on what they are working towards and they cannot hear you tell them why they shoul dnot be obsessed so much with getting where they are going…
They think you a light weight, if you are not on the same path as them.
And once success is achieved, they talk to you of doing work they love, of GETTING to do work they love…
They also talk about how hard the journey was and still is, but they relish it, they downplay it, not to be deceptive but because, really, deep down inside, they do not see it as painful, they see it as exhilarating, and they see themselves as powerful creators.
And you, as you begin or ramp up your own journey, think that it is all sunshine and light until yo ucome across the pain and in that moment, you get to choose whether you will join the ranks of the powerful or whether you will continue to see it all as painful and quit and return to your comfortable but dissatisfying existence.
And we see all those fallen heroes, you may even hear a few as they try to deter you from doing what it takes to get the results you want. They failed and so they think all will fail…
In fact, they want you to fail in order to validate their failure…
What will it be for you?
Will the pain cause you to rise as warrior, fighter, defender of a purpose, a cause to change lives with your business…
Or will you fall by the wayside, talking only of the pain, swallowed up in dissapointment because you did not have it in you to stay on course?
I am calling on the warriors and fighters because to live a life you love, you absolutely have to be that person.
That person whose sole focus is on the achievement of a purpose beyond themselves and it does not have to be some huge, ‘change every one in the world’s life’ type purpose, it can be a BIG idea for your family that drives you, that makes you do what it takes…
A BIG IDEA for you…
YOu have to have that BIG IDEA though…
And you have to be willing to fight for that idea because it will take all of you to make that goal happen!
