Don’t Trust Dumb Luck

Are you lucky or unlucky? Do good things usually happen to you or are you a constant victim of trials and tribulations? Do you get the good breaks or are you always broke?
If you want to be lucky then you might be interested to know that both lucky and unlucky people manifest certain characteristics.
Lucky people pay attention to what is going on around them and stand ready to take advantage of situations as they happen. Unlucky people are narrowly focused and quickly lose concentration on anything really important.
Lucky people have a positive expectancy that good things will happen to them. Unlucky people think that nothing good is ever likely to happen to them. What’s really interesting about this characteristic is that both of them are usually right!
Lucky people are generous. They willingly share what they have even out of their poverty. They are happy to take any opportunity to sow seeds of encouragement or hope into the lives of other people. Unlucky people are seldom charitable with their time, talents or treasure.
Lucky people are willing to work hard. Someone once said, “Luck is what you have left over when you give 100 percent.” Unlucky people are often lazy, even slothful.
Lucky people are enthusiastic, animated, and strong-willed. Unlucky people are weary, boring, and feeble.
Lucky people take the initiative; they are resourceful and ready to take action when action is required. Unlucky people wait for someone to tell them what to do and if someone finally does speak up they are likely to complain about the proposed course of action.
Lucky people live with passion and purpose. Unlucky people barely exist hoping against hope that some day Lady Luck will dance for them.
In conclusion I suggest that if you are “down on your luck” that you “don’t push your luck” and depend on “fickle fate” to get you out of the mud. “As luck would have it,” there’s no such thing as luck.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect.” Which are you?
