Often people ask the question if it is right to visit the graveyards in Islam and the answer is yes. According to Sunnah, Islam has given the consent to the Muslims and it is allowed for them to visit the graves. In fact, some Muslim scholars state that it is an obligation in Islam to visit the graves of your loved ones. Although it is not recommended to women to visit the graves but that doesn’t mean that they are not allowed to do so. People used to bend down in front of the graves of Holy saints, and used to worship them by making them as idols. But as the teachings of Islam started to spread, permission of visiting the graves was given to the people with conditions applied. The purpose of Islam was to worship the one and only God Almighty and not anyone else. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had been buried in the Holy Masjid-e-Nabawi which is present in Madinah.
