It may seem a little surprising to some people, but yes, there is such a thing as labiaplasty- a plastic surgery procedure to reduce the size of the vaginal lips. Whatever your reason is for going under the knife, this is a daunting task so do your best to prepare for it.
1. Consult with your doctor.
Consulting with your doctor to discuss the procedure, as well as pre and post-surgery needs and preparations,is a must. Because this is your precious part, this may be more nerve-wracking than getting a nose job. Once decided to go through the procedure, list down questions that might cross your mind and don’t forget to ask your doctor about them.
2. Bid smoking adieu.
Smoking is on the NO list so make sure to take a rest from those cigarettes prior to your surgery because it dramatically increases the risk of complications. Usually, surgeons require patients to at least be 6 weeks smoke-free before (and after) the procedure. Additionally, smoking slows down the healing process and you wouldn’t want that, would you?
Your doctor will also look into other medications, vitamins or supplements that you might be taking. If some of them may affect or counteract the effects of the medicines that you will take or will be used during the surgery, then you will be asked to stop taking them.
3. A clean bill of health.
Your surgeon will perform a physical exam on you to make sure you are healthy enough to undergo surgery.
4. Prepare your go bag.
Your go bag should have your post-operation essentials such as sanitary pads (bleeding will occur after the first few days of surgery) and loose-fitting clothes to change into. Remember, you will feel discomfort and your aim is to make yourself as comfortable as you possibly can. You may also want to stock up on food such as fruits and healthy food to munch on as you will be unable to do the heavy lifting for a few weeks after the surgery.
