Everyone wants to be able to swim in clean, safe and clear swimming pool water. To prevent the water from turning green due to algae formation or the water to stink, it is therefore important to add a disinfectant to the pool water. There are 2 basic options for disinfecting swimming pool water: adding chlorine or adding salt to kill the bacteria and algae in the water.
Disinfect swimming pool water with chlorine
Chlorine is the most commonly used disinfectant for swimming pools and spas. Chlorine is often added to the water via chlorine tablets in the pool or in liquid form via an (automatic) dosage directly into the pipework.
Chlorine ensures that bacteria and algae do not get a chance to develop in the water. Important to know: Chlorine only works effectively as a disinfectant when the pH value of the water is good. The best pH value is between 7.2 and 7.6.
Different weather conditions and frequent use of bathing water ensure that chlorine is a repeated product. Therefore, you must add chlorine regularly to keep the pool water free from infections. Good to know is that chlorine is a component of salt. So a saltwater swimming pool also contains chlorine. Chlorine is and remains a chemical product and should therefore always be treated with care.

Disinfect swimming pool water with salt
A more natural way of disinfecting is the use of salt as a disinfectant. The salt can be added directly to the pool water and is then converted to natural chlorine by a salt electrolysis device. Now you understand why a saltwater swimming pool always contains chlorine. A saltwater swimming pool only works with a salt electrolysis device.
Salt electrolysis ensures that the salt (Sodium Chloride) is converted to chlorine and lye by using a low voltage. Because the chlorine can then be converted back to salt, it remains a closed system so that you only have to add salt once.
