One can never remain happy by inflicting pain on someone else - that’s Nature’s law. Hence revenge certainty does not heal.On the contrary, revenge opens the doors to limitless suffering for endless time.

The sorrow, pain or an insult could invoke a fire of revenge in one’s mind, and if given wind, it would not only take control over us, but gulp us completely. The belief that ‘Revenge is the only chance of healing’ is like giving wind to the fire burning inside us, and hence it is most dangerous and fatal for our conscience.
This would not only give rise to unhealthy thoughts twenty-four by seven, but the negative tendencies would haunt us all the time and would bind us in the clutches of such demerit karma that no matter how much we plead, cry or beg thereafter, we would not be able to free ourselves from the torturous suffering it would yield.
In the influence of this wrong belief, without your knowledge, you would be racing ahead with jet-speed on the path of suffering which has no U-turn for miles and miles together. Hence beware!
Revenge invites not only enormous but unimaginable suffering for ourselves.
It leaves us burning in a fire that does not get extinguished throughout this life and many more future lives too. And mind you, revenge is the key that opens the doors to hell and animal kingdom in our future life - yes the karma that we bind on account of believing in revenge drags us to these lower life-forms where we are forced to spend countless of years and go through immense pain, without having anyone besides, with whom we could share or would hear!
So, never, never, never believe in Revenge please!
There is no chance of healing therein. On the contrary, it drives us into taking such wrong and impractical decisions that will only harm us. Even if we are successful in taking revenge, we will not gain anything out of it besides sorrow and pain. Thus revenge, with certainty, secures more misery into our life.
The law of karma states that when you inflict any type of pain and misery onto anyone else, as a direct consequence, we will have to suffer. So, the cycle of getting even will continue between the two of you and will drag you both into an ocean of suffering.
Let’s understand the Science
The scientific reason behind why any living being is causing us pain is that we have caused them pain in the past. They may say hurtful or painful things today, maybe harm us physically or emotionally, or blame and insult us for no good reason - let it be!
Our strength lies in forgiving and moving on.
We all want to be happy in life, isn’t it? But if we carry the weight of the pain someone has given to us, then will we ever be happy? The person who remembers his sorrow, pain and insults and dwells in it with an idea of taking revenge has to definitely pay a very heavy price.
Instead, understand that, ‘It is a result of my own past karma. I have hurt people in the past, therefore by Natural law, this pain has come to me. Now, let me credit whatever hurt I’ve received and not give any more pain in return.’ So simple! This is the simplest key to set ourselves free and race ahead on the path of happiness and peace.
It may look difficult to start with, but believe me, it isn’t. On the contrary, revenge is very very difficult. And until we hold onto revenge, the cycle only continues, and in each cycle, the darkness it leads into is even more dense than earlier.
So, the one who wants to be free from revenge will have to make an earnest effort to break the cycle!
Just think, why do you experience revengeful feelings with only a few people and not the entire world? It’s because you have a karmic account with them, and that needs to be settled.
The solution to settle this karmic account is ‘Pratikraman’ i.e. asking for forgiveness. Pratikraman means praying to God, “Dear God, I have made mistakes that have led to such a karmic account between the two of us. Please forgive me. I resolve never to repeat these mistakes. Please grant me strength for the same.”
Yes, it is in our utmost interest to wash off the seeds of vengeance at the core, by doing pratikraman, by seeking pardon for all our past faults, if not done in this life, then in numerous past lives. Pratikraman also helps us reverse the vengeful and negative thoughts that continue to consume and plague us within. Pratikraman soothes our mind and the person concerned too feels the positive effects of our pratikraman. The very root of hatred and abhorrence gets destroyed by pratikraman, and thus, one finds internal peace!
The deeper our intent of revenge, the more pratikraman one needs to do. It is very easy to harness hurtful thoughts but the power lies in the freedom from these hurtful thoughts. Forgiveness means to remove the anger that has arisen in the mind and to let go of the thought of taking revenge forever.
To conclude: The intent of taking revenge and getting even with someone can never heal. It will only bind you and cause misery. But by making an intention of letting it go and doing pratikraman for it will liberate you from the pain forever.
