Right or Wrong is Actually a Line of Demarcation; It’s not that It is Exactly that Way Only
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan says,
“We see things as truth or untruth through our deluded perception (and accordingly say) ‘this is right and this is wrong’. Moreover, truth and untruth are not the same for everyone. What you may see as truth, someone else may see it as untruth; what this person sees as truth, this other person may see as untruth. So it is not the same for everyone.”
Yet, we all are so busy in seeking ways by which we can justify that ‘I am right’, ways by which we can convince people that ‘see, my views, or my words and actions, were perfectly right’, ways by which we can prove to the world ‘an imagined truth to be the real truth’; aren’t we?
Why is there this Compulsion to be Always Right?
Why are we so conditioned to defend ourselves all the time, even when we are totally wrong?
If someone shows us some mistake of ours, or says, ‘you are wrong’, we feel lessened, humiliated and unsupported. We instantly resolve to our self, ‘I don’t want to interact with this person anymore.’ A thought, that the other person has some grudge or ill-feeling towards us, starts haunting our mind; and the feeling, that this person does not or will not like me now, drowns our heart.
Here, Let me Share with You a small Story. I’m Sure you’ll Greatly Enjoy it..
This is taken from the life-story of a young lad named ‘Deepak’, who is today an Enlightened Soul, guiding the whole world. This young boy, right from early days, never allowed his intellect to obstruct, overrule or hinder his progress!!!
Many times, his senior would assign some tasks to him. And if she (the senior) felt he has made some mistake in that task, she would not only bring that mistake to light, but also fire him left, right and centre. However, this young lad would be cool as ever - no argument, no justification of how ‘I am right’, no defending one’s self at all!
Later, when the senior would check with him, what his internal reaction was at the time she was scolding him, he would very politely and calmly say, ‘While you are speaking to me, simultaneously I too am telling Deepak that, ‘See you made this mistake. Listen properly to whatever Niruben is saying. This mistake should not happen again and again.’ Seeing this incredible humility, his senior was always elated, greatly pleased, and highly impressed with him.
Even when someone scolded him for no rhyme or reason, for no fault of his, yet he would never waste his time and energy in justifying or rebelling. His sole focus would be on how to resolve this situation at hand and move forward. When asked how he manages to do that, He humbly reveals,
“Dada (Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan) has taught me that one has infinite mistakes in him.
So, I tell Deepak (in the self-talk, made possible after Self-Realization from Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan), ‘In a total of infinite mistakes, if plus two (mistakes someone wrongly pointed) happens, should you have any problem? You are already at a loss, some more loss – how does it matter? And could it be possible that you may not have been able to see a few of your mistakes?’
And Deepak immediately admits from within, ‘Yes, it is possible, there is a lot I cannot see.’
So I conclude, ‘In that, two more, Where’s any problem in that?’”
Can there be anything more inspiring than this?
He is an Enlightened Spiritual Master himself today. And one of the main reasons, contributing to this esteemed, elevated spiritual state of his is, he never sought any ways to justify that ‘I am right.’
We fear that ‘if I am not right, I will not be liked by others!’ But here, we see that by admitting his mistakes and learning how to come out of those mistakes, He became the loved one of all!
Due to our wrong practice, we always remain negatively influenced, as our focus is riveted on ‘me being right and him being wrong.’ Consequently, forget about progressing, our need ‘to always be right’ gradually pulls us down and eventually makes us into an inflexible, dominating and violent being. However, in the above example, we got to see how by admitting his mistakes and focussing on progressing, by being straightforward and humble, his Senior and his Spiritual Master (Dada) became his life-time anchors.
What is actually right?
It is right only when one acquires something in a way that does not cause harm to any living being. One speaks such that no living being is hurt. One’s conduct is such that no living being is hurt. That is the fundamental truth of worldly interaction. To not hurt anyone is the highest of principles.
So today let’s make a firm determination and understand that, “Being right or wrong is insignificant, what is important is how I can help others, how I can serve mankind with humility, or at the least, how do I not hurt others through my thoughts, words or actions.”
Whenever faced in a situation, where we once again seek ways to justify that we are right...
...we shall now remember Gnani’s (the Enlightened One’s, whose story I narrated above) teachings,
“Some people might approve of what you have to say or suggest, while others may not. If someone tells you something and you tend to withdraw from that activity, then when will you make progress? Instead you should listen to that person's view, and should put across your own view too, so as to convince that person of the righteousness of your activity and why you are doing it.”
But no one should be hurt through our speech, no one should be hurt through our conduct, and no negative thoughts towards the other person should arise in our mind. This is the ultimate worldly truth! In case we happen to hurt, we shall immediately pray to God, “Dear God, I made this mistake. Please forgive me for the same and grant me strength so that I do not make that mistake again.’
The Real Truth Dawns Upon Us when We Realize, ‘Who Am I?’
When we attain the real truth, the deluded perception will be gone. Our life then changes dramatically, owing to the right vision that helps us see, really ‘who am I’ and ‘who is actually seeking ways to justify I am right.’
When Gnani, the Enlightened One, graces us with Self-Realization, he, with his divine powers, separates the real ‘I’ and the worldly ‘I’ and teaches us how to remain in the awareness of the real ‘I’. The real ‘I’ is the eternal truth and it is an abode of eternal bliss too! So come, first and foremost, let’s go to Gnani and realize this real ‘I’!!! The other problems will be soon taken care of automatically then.
