Rational skepticism... or not?

Many people, especially in the academic world, look at the world in a very rational way. They view everything related to energies and spirituality with skepticism, a rational skepticism.

People involved in groups often seek approval and recognition. For example, Wikipedia wants to be recognized as a legit encyclopedia. The Zeitgeist Movement wants to be taken seriously by the medias and mainstream population.

Groups of rational skeptics turn into irrational skeptics in order to have approval and credibility from other skeptics. To them, approval (which allows them to grow in popularity) is more important than the truth (which allows them to move forward). This is the case for Wikipedia and for the Zeitgeist Movement. I'm sure it is also the case for many other groups.

The objective of Wikipedia is not to be right or to inform the public. It's role is to be a reflection of the public opinion.

The objective of the Zeitgeist Movement is not to seek the truth. It's role is to make certain ideas recognized by skeptics and scholars.

Some people say the IQ of a group is inversely proportional to its size and it is often true.

So what can you do if you're stuck in this "validation-seeking" trap of irrational skepticism?

1. Become aware of it. Awareness is curative. Once you become aware of it, it changes from a subconscious reflex to a conscious reaction and you have control over it.

2. Don't care about what people think and detach yourself from the collective thinking. Have your own independent way of thinking.

3. Turn off the TV as it keeps repeating a view of the world over and over again until you subconscious take these ideas and values for granted without realizing it.

4. Be skeptic about your own way of thinking. Irrational skeptics will put everything into question except their own beliefs.

5. Keep your mind open and seek the truth no matter what. Accept there are things you have no answer.

Spirituality and science were seen as incompatible views of the world for a long time. We are now slowly bridging the gap between spirituality and science.

Max Planch, the father of Quantum Physics, said: "A scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it."

Scientific discoveries are one thing, but it takes openness and education for the ideas to be available to the population. Irrational skepticism has to be replaced by rational skepticism and objectivity.
