Scoop out mud, you will arrive at a well-head:
Mother: This indeed comes first. You go searching the bottom. The top will of itself come within your grasp. Let's understand the matter with the aid of an example.
If you want to dredge the mud in a pool, you've first to drain away the water at the top, can a diver dredge the pond unless he pumps out the water, can he?
You say that your pond is filling up. It is to be marked out. That means you'd like to dig the pond and make it bigger. For that, you'll first have to scoop out water. It's clear water. It will be followed by muddy water. Next sludge. Next mud. Next hardened mud. Lastly, you will be able to cut deep enough.
Well, do you know what you're doing? Have done or are doing? Hurriedly they dive into water. Diving they scoop out the mud in lumps. The surface water remains the same, so remains the middle depths. They can't get down to the depths at the bottom.
As soon as they scoop out a few lumps, they swallow water. They do and as soon as they do that, they pant and gasp. In this state they feel—no need of going deeper. This is the limit. It is all due to hurry that they get into this state.
If you cut deep, the layers will come up one after another. And finally you will meet the well-head. The pure water of that well-head will gush out of you. Yours all concern is that pure water. The water from that source will act as your judge. The water that wells up is indescribable quality.
Prosad: Isn't that drinking water meant for distribution?
Mother: There you are. This pure water has to be distributed.
Prosad: But those others, over the ages, merely distributed the water just as they had got it from the surface. Perhaps that has led to successive outbreaks of disease.
How to delve deep:
Prosad: Mother, you say--Please everybody. Once you 'Please everybody, you become a self-analyst'. But once I've done with pleasing, where is the time left for me to turn an analyst? That analysis, too, is time-consuming.
Mother: Why isn't there time left? You have everything. When you please someone, you thereby cast a spell on his heart, do you know that? You are divesting everybody of his weapon. That act of pleasing amounts to divesting someone of his weapon.
Everybody now casts his eyes towards your digging. You have dug a pit one cubit deep. Those people, you will see, with their five weapons will come to your aid and make your pit five cubic deeper.
Once you feel pleased-- 'Ah, what a delicious dish! This person has done cooking?' Enough. There it ends. This person has cooked. There's no need for me to know what he is at.
Then that sympathetic mind of his-–the one which is detached, indifferent--in a moment it hides away here. As soon as it hides here, a spade-full of earth is dug out. Well, he doesn't know that he has given something. Why, indeed, doesn't he know? He does. It is from there that he uttered his 'Ah'. It is from that the wonder begins.
Humanity has no concern:
Prosad: In your philosophy I have found somewhere that Mahajnan (Unfathomable Knowledge) is much higher up than humanity. In that case will humanity in its evolution be ever able to understand your 'Mahajnan'—Unfathomable Knowledge?
Mother: They will understand as they go farther. If the evolution (development) goes on, it may reach that level. That doesn't mean they will run into thousands and millions. 'If', I say. While going on like this, it may enter in somebody's mind. He casts aside everything and comes to a stand-still.
Prosad: But, Mother, in all ages the human mind has been tied up in the coils of variegated humanity. So does it appear to me, it cannot realize something so deep?
You say, dig up mud, then you find hardened soil--at last you will come upon that well-head. Man hasn't leisure enough to listen about things so far off.
Mother: Don't be upset. Keep on talking. You need not know whether it exists or not. You want to have the water of that well-head. You want to and you have it too. Now you point the way and go leaving it behind. Why bother whether people will take it or aren't taking it.

Ma-Mahajnan, a matchless spiritual genius, expressed her entire creation in a state of "Conscious Trance” which has all been stuffed with matters of highly philosophical value and related with strong literary sense. She could not attend even Primary School due to extreme poverty. Strangely, she was taught all by herself in the School of Nature. The weird and wonderful life is possibly the souse of her vast experience and profound realization. She was born on 17 July, 1928 and passed away on 22 January, 2011. Listen to what Ma-Mahajnan said once: What I tell you briefly about the early phase. Listen first about my life. I was married off at the age of thirteen. I was the second wife, my husband married for the second time and thus I came into his family. I didn’t get any chance for schooling.” You’ll perhaps weep to hear how I came as a wife, driven by utter poverty or how they packed me off. After that all at once I slowly progressed in the domain of that ‘Nothingness’-- “I’m the Mother; the Nothingness, too.”
Asokananda Prosad, Ma-Mahajnan's first disciple, is an engineer, a philosopher and a philanthropist. Being the missing son—the eldest and the first disciple of Great Ma-Mahajnan, he has had to shoulder so many burdens of Ashram and Temple. He has long been translating Works of Ma-Mahajnan, written in Bengali, into English. The Mother didn’t just put those in black and white, but simply expressed, extempore and spontaneous, in a state of “Conscious Trance” and Asokananda, along with his brothers and sisters of Ashram and Temple, got those tape-recorded.
