CSAT is the new recruitment process adopted by the Union Public Service Commission that came into effect from the year 2011. The new format is designed to enable the authority with the capability of recruiting civil servants with proper aptitude and at the same time it also brings the scaling system to an end in which different scoring opportunity in different subjects has always been a matter of concern. The proposal of replacing the optional subject paper in the Civil Services preliminary examination with an aptitude test has been approved by the Government of India. According to the new format of the UPSC Syllabus aspiring candidates are going to face a General Studies Paper along with a General Aptitude Paper of objective type questions and consequently the civil services preliminary exam is now referred as CSAT or Civil Services Aptitude Test.
The new syllabus
At the preliminary stage the new UPSC Syllabus is going to be applied on the preliminary exam only and still there is no plan to bring in a change in the format of the main exam and in the personal interview round. According to the new syllabus for the UPSC CSAT exam both the General Studies Paper and the General Aptitude Paper will contain same value and the questions will be appropriate for graduates from all the different fields and streams. This new format in the UPSC Civil Services exam is going to make the preliminary elimination round more transparent regarding marks and will also help the commission to provide an equal opportunity for every candidate. Now everyone has to follow the same pattern of preparation and the problem of disparity is expected to be solved completely by this new system.
Advantages of CSAT
Compared to the previous version of the Civil Services preliminary exam the new Civil Service Aptitude Test is expected to make it easier for the aspiring Indian Administrative Service candidates. The new csat will be based on multiple choice questions that the candidate has to answer under exam conditions it is going to be beneficial in more than one way both for the candidates and for the recruiting authority or the government. The new UPSC Syllabus adopted for the CSAT is expected to be a better assessment of the logical reasoning capability as well as the thinking performance of the candidate. There will be no more any subject influences and the moral and ethical values of the candidate are also going to be assessed and the government will be able to recruit the right candidate with the right aptitude.
