“I would rather take a handful of eleuthero than a cartload of gold and jewels.”[1]
So said Li Shih-Chen, one of the world’s first pharmacologists.
Five centuries ago, Li Shih-Chen wrote a 52-volume manuscript documenting the treatments used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Among the 10,000 plus substances he wrote about, one herb in particular captured his attention. When it came to the herb eleuthero, he saw no comparison. He was willing to trade a king’s ransom for a mere handful of this one plant.
Why? Eleuthero’s benefits are that powerful when it comes to protecting and nourishing good health.
Why Eleuthero Is A Superior Herb
Eleuthero is classified as an adaptogenic herb, a truly sophisticated and powerful group of plants. Unlike so many herbs, these adaptogens seem to work subtly with the body in a systemic way to increase your overall health. They are known for helping your body adapt to changes in the environment. And they can be used safely over a long period of time.
For this reason, traditional Chinese Medicine classifies adaptogenic herbs as Superior Herbs.
But while adaptogens were considered superior, eleuthero was considered a ruler among adaptogens . . .
Eleuthero is such an important, complex, safe and powerful adaptogenic herb, Chinese herbalists also called it “The King of the Adaptogens”.
Eleuthero: A Carefully-Guarded Soviet Secret
Li Shih-Chen hasn’t been the only medical researcher fascinated with eleuthero.
Starting in the 1960’s Soviet scientists - charged with finding ways to cement Soviet superiority - honed in on the eleuthero that grows in the Siberian forests.
They were not disappointed.
Eleuthero was used to boost worker productivity, strengthen their army, make champion athletes . . . It was even taken into space by Soviet astronauts!
• Dr. Ben Tabachnik, a former Soviet sports nutrition researcher and coach, attributes eleuthero to helping the Soviet Olympic team dominate in the 1988 Olympics.[2]
• Soviet cosmonauts toasted achieving orbit in 1967 with a round of an eleuthero extract.[3]
In fact, Soviet scientists were so excited about the way this root improved performance, they made some of their eleuthero research classified. Information about eleuthero became a closely guarded Soviet state secret!
However they couldn’t keep this secret forever. After digging up a translation of one eleuthero study at a U.S. Airforce base, noted herbal medicine researcher, Dr. Bruce Halstead, MD, got curious. He made an unprecedented trip to Siberia to meet with one of the top eleuthero researchers, Dr. Israel Brekhman, Ph D.
As the word got out thanks to Dr. Halstead’s work, more and more physicians, researchers, sports physiologists and anti-aging experts got excited and added studies to the mix.
With 3000 studies and counting, eleuthero has been studied more than any other herb on the planet!
It’s been studied by researchers in Germany, Sweden, China, Armenia, Korea, England, Japan and the United States.[4] And it continues to fascinate scientists, doctors and holistic practitioners thanks to its exceptional health benefits.
And I’m one of them. Most noticeably because eleuthero is
