Janet Humphrey, M.S., L.Ac., is a licensed acupuncturist
and herbalist with over twenty years’ experience, as well as a biochemist. She
is the founder and director of Manhattan’s
Giving Nature Center
for Holistic Health & Wellness (www.givingnaturecenter.com). With her roots
in Western science, Janet holds a unique perspective on the practice of
holistic medicine and she is a skilled communicator, dedicated to empowering
patients with knowledge and tools to care for their health.
As a biochemist, Janet served as a research associate in
parasitology under Nobel Laureate Dr. Christian DeDuve at Rockefeller University
in New York,
and in molecular genetics at the University
of California. Prior to
her study of Chinese medicine she pursued graduate study in nutritional
biochemistry at Cornell
University.
Her curricular studies in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
took place through Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz and The San Francisco College of
Acupuncture, and in 1991 she completed a state-approved clinical apprenticeship
with Dr. Robert Zeiger in Berkeley.
Janet is nationally certified by the National Certification Commission for
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in
Acupuncture and Herbology (Dipl. Ac., Dipl. C.H.), and now practices in New
York City.
Janet regularly teaches workshops in the New York area. She is a guest speaker on
Sirius radio’s Martha Stewart Living channel and has written health articles
for several online publications. Janet is the creator of Giving Nature herbal
products, designed to put the power of traditional Chinese remedies in people’s
hands for home use. Giving Nature herbal
formulas are available online and in retail stores in the New York area.
