Do you ever do this thing where you keep holding back on doing the thing you are great at, while staring at the thing you think you want to be good at?
Let me try to explain…
For a long time, I would look at the prophets, seers, healers that would come round my church and think that I had to be like them to have anything worthwhile to give to the world. I would listen to their teachings and their preachings and I would try to copy what they did and downplay what I was good at because it seemed not good enough, not woo woo enough and also not practical enough when compared to the magical things they seemed to be doing.
I would ignore the fact that I am very insightful and discerning when looking at people’s money, people’s businesses, people’s lives and instead I would place on a pedestal some gift I thought that I had to have in order to do the work I wanted to do on the planet and so that would delay me ever getting started…
Because… well… none of us are all that great at being someone else and when all the focus is on trying to be the best version of them that you can be – YOU NEVER EVER HAVE TO GET STARTED!
And honey, I see you doing that…
You tell yourself that if you just do this course…
Or that other training program…
If you just get your website looking like that person over there…
If you get a Facebook page of that number…
If your bank account was at a certain level like that dude…
If you could just learn to speak like that gal does…
Or maybe have the gift of discernment like that other guru over there…
Or have the insights like him or her over there…
If you could just get your relationships working the way the other person said theirs are…
Then maybe, you would be ready to start doing your real work on this planet!
And so you give yourself an out time and time again…
Telling yourself that you are simply not ready yet.
Simply not enough yet.
Ignoring the whispers from inside your soul…
Telling you to step the fuck up and stop delaying!
You ignore that and listen to the fear instead…
People will think I am too big for my boots…
People will think I am going above my station…
I am not ready yet…
I have to be something else first…
People will look at my life and think I am a fraud…
I have too much to do at the moment to focus on becoming that other person so of course, I cannot do it yet…
Wait, let me get this other piece of paper from this other training course that will finally prove to everyone that I am enough to make a start and get some clients…
Maybe after I have a little more life experience, maybe then I will be enough…
Maybe, maybe, MAYBE!
Can you not see that all these are fear tactics, determined to keep you searching and waiting and wondering and ultimately, keeping you safe (or so your brain tells you)?
Honey, you do KNOW what you are great at.
I know that in this moment, you will feel clouded as your monkey brain tries to keep you safe from the reality that you do in fact know what needs to happen next…
your monkey brain wants you to stay doing what you have always done because it feels more certain about it but you, the real you, the very heart of you KNOWS you are born for more.
So, right now, acknowledge the monkey brain within you – “Thank you for keeping me safe. It is much appreciated. And now I am ready to step into my fullness. I now choose to live a deliberate life”
And then in your journal, write “I am good at ____________________” (fill in the blanks without too much thinking)
“I feel great when I _________________________”
“My life’s work will involve __________________________”
“I commit to this”
Write down answers as many times as you need to, until you cannot come up with any more answers.
Then commit to doing that stuff.
Commit to figuring out how to do it. The way will become clear as yo make a deliberate decision to stop putting some other gift on a pedestal and instead value your own, regardless of how unshiny and unglamourous it may sometimes feel.
Follow those intuitive nudges…
Act on what bubbles up within.
You are born for more but you will not live it while trying so hard to be someone else.
YOu are you – OWN IT!
Fight for, deliberately design the life you are born to live…
Because you want to!
