Probably one of the biggest complaints I hear from my clients and other entrepreneurs is that they don't know what to write when it comes to creating content for their businesses.
They know they NEED to be writing (blog posts, articles, press releases, social media updates, even video scripts), but they're at a loss for what to write and say to their peeps.
Believe me, we all have something to say! And, yes, that "something" is valuable.
Here are 5 ways to find the content inside you that is just waiting to burst out!
1. What are your successes?
Think back over the last 12 months. What project did you complete? Where did a client just gush over what you did for her? What are you particularly proud of?
If you're not sure, ask your colleagues, teammates, and clients. "What is it that I do that seems to be effortless and natural, and that comes harder for others?" is a great starting question.
2. What is the #1 thing you love to do? (Coaching, teaching, consulting, writing books, creating new products/programs, speaking... ).
What is the #2 thing?
As an added bonus, explain WHY this thing jazzes you. What's the juice you get from doing this thing? How is that you can help people more doing this?
3. What content do you already have (your Content Inventory)?
List all the articles, blog posts, presentations, products, programs that you have. In addition, do you have a process that you take clients through? This helps you figure out what you've done, what you know, what worked, and, most importantly, what sparks your desire now.
4. Sit quietly for 10 minutes.
No writing. No doing. No talking. Just be. Now, what comes to mind? What are the whispers from your Wise Self?
Sitting quietly helps calm the "shoulds" and the Inner Critic Gremlin. What does your Wise Self say to you? Where do you feel pulled (from the inside, not the external demands of the world)?
5. Review all the answers from Steps 1-4.
As a brainstorm exercise, what comes to mind? What topics draw you? What can you expand or contract from content you've already produced?
Right now, you're just brainstorming ideas; you don't have to write any full content, although if you feel driven to dash out a few paragraphs from a brainstorm topic or two, absolutely do so... you want to take advantage of those inspired ideas!
