13 Reasons Why Your Teacher Was Right About Apples
Written by Craig Jacobs
An apple a day keeps the doctor away!
Apples are nature's gift to help us achieve optimum health. Apples contain a wealth of nutrients essential for maintaining good health. Scientists say apples are a real health food that helps the human body. Their investigation is in agreement: an apple a day is a must for building better health.
They can be ingested in any form, raw or including juice, to do their good work. Apples are also rich in pectins. Pectin is a natural fiber found in many fruits with apples being the richest source of pectin among all the fruits. Recent studies have revealed many health benefits from consumption of pectin. Of note are studies that show Pectin:
1. Acts as an antioxidant against the bad cholesterol in the blood stream.
2. Decreases the chances of colon cancer.
3. Works well as an anti-diarrhea agent.
4. Reduces high blood pressure.
5. Is effective in the regression, or prevention of, gallstones.
6. Reduce cancer risk
7. Prevent heart attacks
8. Ward off eye diseases such as cataracts and macular degeneration
9. Control asthma
10. Maintain health when suffering from Crohn's disease or Colitis
11. Prevent recurrent gout attacks
12. Speed up healing of recurrent heartburn, or gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD)
13. Increases bone density
There is also recent evidence to suggest that taking Apple Pectin everyday over time can lead to a reduction in insulin requirements which may lessen the severity of diabetes.
Apples are a healthy, no fat, cholesterol free fresh dessert, as well as an excellent source of fiber. An average-size apple has five grams of fiber, which supplies 20% of the daily fiber recommendation. Apples also are a natural source of Vitamins A, B1, B2, C, Niacin, and minerals calcium, phosphorus, iron, iodine, and potassium.
The leading cause of illnesses and death in many people is a diet of low fiber, high fat, and animal protein. But a diet rich in pectin can protect against many diseases aggravated by these poor eating habits. Apple fiber helps maintain intestinal balance by cleansing the intestinal tract with its soluble and insoluble fibers. Pectin apple fiber increases the acidity in the large intestines.
Children should be taught to eat apples or drink apple juice and establish good diet habits early and keep them throughout life and that means eat plenty of apples and drink apple juice. So there you have it, apples... perfect as a snack or main meal component for dieters; filling but not fattening because of their high fiber and water content.
This is WHY... "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"
