Make life an adventure, not a cocoon. Death will give you peace and safety soon enough.-Tom Rusk and Randy Read

We are designed for adventure. Take a minute and think about what you have done today. Did you do anything that made your heart skip a beat or cause a little anxiousness? If you answered yes, excellent! If you answered no, then let the questioning begin. Is this what you envisioned your life to be? Waking up, doing the chores, going to work, watching TV, surfing the internet, and buying the latest thingamajig…???

Well, I definitely did not envision this for my life. There has got to be more to life than the mundane, repetitive lives many of us have fell into. There is a life of adventure and purpose for me and for you. So, I thought I’d share three simple steps to get you thinking about how you can add more adventure to your life.
1 Think of travelers and pack lightlyr
People who travel to experience new cultures and ways of living are natural adventure seekers. When they prepare for their traveling experience they only carry the necessities so that they can move about freely. In order to preserve their sense of adventure, travelers learn to pack light and live light. If you want more adventure in your life, seriously start thinking about your necessities. Do you really need to be paying $349 a month for that car? Could you get a less expensive car or dare I say, ride the bus so that you can spend less time worrying about money and more time working at something that you love to do? Think about it, if you pack lightly, you have less stuff to maintain and more time for creating adventures.
2 Plan your adventure, but be wary.
Planning is important. If you want more adventure in your life you must make the choice to do it and you must plan out what it will be. Your plan could be one word scribbled on a napkin or it could be typed out. Whatever you decide, plan it out, but be very careful. Planning is not doing. If you get stuck planning your life away you will get frustrated, you will forget your adventure, you will come up with a new adventure and start planning that one and the cycle of coming up with ideas and planning them will continue until you are dead with no adventure and no life. So quickly, make a plan, set a time of engagement and do it. That’s it. Don’t get stuck in the planning stage. You will always and forever regret it.
3 Do it!
The most important thing you can do is DO. Do what you love. Go write, sing, roller-skate, create that website, take care of your children and write a book about it, go feed the hungry, go run. Whatever you do, just DO. This is the single most important thing that you can do, because doing begets doing. In other words, when you get past the planning stage and start working, the real adventure begins. That is when you begin to make discoveries. Start learning new things. Then you can refine your work or decide if something is for you or not. That’s when you can fail, fail, fail again and then succeed. So go, stop reading this and get busy. Life is too short to not do what you love.

Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable. –Helen Keller
