Yes, things look bleak. It’s really scary. You don’t know what you’re going to do and you don’t know what to do first. This is hard. It hurts. You’ve taken some losses; you’ve suffered some serious hits. I get it.

You just want things to get better. You’re not a quitter but you just don’t know how you’re going to get beyond this. It might not even be the last of the bad news yet but you’re ready to just sit down and make it stop. You’re starting to wonder if it’s even worth the fight. You are a fighter that is loosing the will to fight on. I want to encourage you to think about these 4 things you must remember to maintain your hope in a hopeless situation.

1. There Is Something Within You

Something in you will not let you give up. Something in you will not let you sit down. Something in you is whispering for you to regroup and keep it moving. Grab hold of that something. Let it ground you. Let it steady you in this moment while you. It is there just for you. I call it God. I call it Love. It doesn’t matter what you call it. You know it’s there. Feel it and lean on it while you get yourself together. If you can’t find a reason to be thankful in the moment, take a moment to be thankful for this force, this something that is holding you up right now. Focus on being thankful for it. It may be all you have and yet it is all you need right now.

2. Your Strength Is In Your Weakness

Give it a good cry if that’s how you feel. I don’t care who you are, everyone needs a good cry every now and again. You have been strong for so long. Allow yourself a moment to be human. Acknowledge where you are and what is going on. It is what it is. Even though you are tired and things look like they might get worse before they get better, you’ve got something that will carry you through. It seems contradictory but there is something powerful in acknowledging your limitations. Strong emotions last about 7-10 minutes. Give yourself a moment to feel the terrible things you feel and see how allowing it makes room for those overwhelming feelings to begin passing.

3. You Are Not Alone

You are not alone. You have people on your side. It may not be the people you wanted or expected to be there. Look up. Sometimes your support comes from the most unlikely places. Don’t miss it looking at the help you thought would come. The help you need is here. No, they may not be able to save you or even fix it. You don’t need saving. You need someone to tell you that it’s going to be okay. Hey, it’s going to be okay.

4. Your Situation Is Never Ever Hopeless

Your situation is bad. It may be terrible. It may be incredibly painful. It is not hopeless. Now that you are steady, now that you have acknowledged how you feel, now that you know there is someone somewhere in your corner, start looking at this situation with new eyes. Think about where you want to be in the next few months. Look ahead to where you would really like to be. Not where you are right now. Keeping in mind where you are, what would you like to look back in a few months and say you were able to do from this point. This is not the time to belabor how you got here. This is the time to regroup and keep it moving. Find the reasons to hope that you can begin healing, moving, fixing, changing. Find the meaning in what you are going through. Find the way forward. You have the answers. Check with that steadying force within. What makes sense for you to do in this moment to begin picking up the pieces? It might be just a single step forward. That’s okay. There is enough in just that first step. Count the blessings that sit within this situation. Declare that you will move forward. You can do this. You can survive this. You have survived and you have every reason to hope that this is not the end of your story.
