1. Listen to yourself – You often do things out of obligations or fear or peer pressure. Things with which you don’t agree or things that are out of your value system. This directly lowers your self esteem. It is like being dishonest to your own self and that gives a pretty uncomfortable feeling, because then deep down there is a conflict in your mind and heart leading to worry. And a worried person can never look confident at the same time. So, listen to yourself, your heart, your conscience….it will make you confident at a subconscious level.

2. Exercise – A healthy mind dwells in a healthy body. Exercise gives a positive start to the day. It not only increases the blood circulation and helps keep every part of the body active, but is also a mood up lifter. During exercise there are certain proteins and hormones released in the body which causes the mind to become pleasant and happy.

3. Think of the worst case scenario – Whenever you are terrified or nervous about anything just ask yourself “What is the worst thing that can happen in this situation?” This is a very effective way to combat worry and it triggers the mind with logic. Normally lack of confidence has much to do with negative imagination, but when you ask this question the mind has to narrow down its thought process to this one answer. Thus it sets the thought process in one track, rather than getting lost here and there. And finally you answer that question and more often than not realize that, you can manage the outcome after all.

4. Avoid procrastination – This looks like an odd advice for building instant confidence, but don’t under-estimate its power. What is procrastination? It is delayed action and when the action is delayed it has an impact on the human psyche. Say for eg: You wanted to join swimming classes this month and you were excited about the idea, you even shared it with friends. But you did not enroll that week itself because of your habit of procrastination. You thought you will do it next week. Then next week you were too tied up and genuinely were unable to enroll. Simultaneously that excitement to join the class also fades with each passing day and one fine day you decide that you shall enroll next year.
This looks like a simple thing but it causes the mind to feel that it is incapable of taking decisions or the mind might start justifying the procrastination by creating doubt about the idea of swimming in the first place.

5. Gain more knowledge – Knowledge is the light that can dispel any darkness. To tackle anything in life, it is always better to gain understanding about it. Marie Curie said ‘ Nothig is to be feared, it is only to be understood’. Misconceptions are misleading and hence, it is always better to do a little homework at your end. Try to find out as much as possible about the situation or the person or anything new that you have to deal with and you will get the hold on it.
