5 Reasons To Use A Numbing Cream Before Getting A Tattoo
Written by Mathew Philips
An over-the-counter numbing cream found in pharmacies, or a prescription numbing cream, can be applied to skin prior togetting tattooed, in order to dull any pain experienced while getting the tattoo. Numbing creams may also be used prior to getting a tattoo to help minimize pain associated with the procedure. You can let a thick layer of the cream sit on your skin for 45 minutes to achieve even longer-lasting effects. While numbing cream does not completely remove the pain, it may help to lessen it and make the experience of getting tattooed a lot more enjoyable, especially in the early part of the longer tattooing session.
Some people claim numbing cream helps them to go through a tattoo appointment with little to no pain, while others claim that it does not have a significant effect. Others have had experiences with tattoo numbing creams, and they will tell you they simply did not work. Many tattoo artists are a bit skeptical of how products such as numbing creams will do, and many artists do their tattoos with no tattoo anesthetic at all.
Your tattooist might be more comfortable using an numbing spray that does not have as much of an impact on your skin. No tattooist wants to work with a customer squirming and twisting with pain, so a little numbing cream or spray might be helpful for smaller tattoos at just the right spot.
Numbing cream, when used properly, can be excellent at numbing your skin before and after tattooing, and also before and after laser tattoo removal. Skin-numbing creams may be used at aesthetic appointments, prior to a minor surgical procedure, prior to receiving a tattoo, or at any time the skin might be exposed to pain.
In recent years, skin-numbing creams have gained popularity for use during and after a tattoo, in order to help alleviatepain from the procedure. Numbing creams are made using nerve-numbing ingredients such as Lidocaine, along with nerve blockers in order to lessen the pain and discomfort of some painful treatments, in this case, for tattoos.
Water-based numbing creams may make the skin slippery, making it more difficult for you to get tattooed.
The creams that cause your skin to be slippery cause your tattooing procedure to become harder. The only issue with this cream is that it can impact your tattoos healing process. Tattoo artists will refuse to work on individuals who use cream prior to the tattoo appointment because it makes the tattooing process harder, if not impossible.
One thing important to note is that with longer tattoo sessions (longer than 1 hour under the needle) the chance is high the numbing cream is going to be worn away, particularly if the artist is wiping off tattoos with surgical soap. For full and half sleeves, or larger chest & back tattoos requiring longer sessions, you will have to take a brief break throughout your session and apply the Tattoo Numbing Cream again if needed.
