Until a few decades ago, women were taught that their place was at home, cooking meals and taking care of the children. Fortunately, as we moved passed that phase, and many women began pursued long successful careers. Women have proved that even in a male dominated environment they could prosper. One of the side effects of being a career oriented woman was having children well into her 30s. While many women have successfully conceived after the age of 35, some doubts and apprehensions remain. So, in this article let's look at seven things you'll understand if you're trying to get pregnant after 35.
1. Free Advice
As with just about everything else, several people will offer you a lot of counsel. This “helpful” information will range from what you should eat, which doctor to visit and even premature parenting advice. While there's no harm in listening to all the advice, make sure that you only follow your doctor's instructions.
2. People Will Judge
While most people have become accustomed to the idea of women getting married and having children later, many people just won't get it. To them, the fact that you waited to have kids equates to you hating children altogether. However, you shouldn't be bothered about what these people think. Choosing to have children is a personal decision.
3. It Takes Some Effort
Despite how easy it seems, especially in the movies, getting pregnant when you're over 35 can be quite a strenuous. If you and your partner are both working, there are always scheduling issues that come up. It's always a good idea to have a plan ready and make sure you and your partner are serious about sticking to it.
4. It's Harder, Not Impossible
There are several reasons you can get discouraged when your trying to conceive. However, it's important to remember that even young, fertile couples require some time to get it right. Sometimes, it can take up to a year of trying before you can successfully conceive. Only look for a doctor's advice after six months to a year of unsuccessful attempts.
5. It Can Be Stressful
Some women think of their biological clocks as ticking time bombs. They can put undue stress on themselves and their partners, which will impede the entire process. Being patient will yield much better results than panicking.
6. Surgical Procedures Should Be Last Resorts
At this stage in their lives, most women are quite successful and are used to getting what they want. They can become quite impatient with their efforts to conceive and will look to surgery as a miracle cure that will help them. However, artificial procedures should only be considered after more than a year has passed since you've been trying. Until then there are still high chances of getting pregnant naturally.
7. Consistency Is Key
The one constant among all of these points is the need to keep trying. Any woman that has successfully conceived naturally after 35 will attest to this. You must try at least three times a week regularly to give yourself the best chance.
Many people are terrified of conceiving after 35. They imagine the world full of complications and convince themselves that it simply won't happen for them. The truth is there are plenty of women that have had safe deliveries with no complications well into their late 30s and early 40s. Are you trying to get pregnant after 35? What is your biggest struggle?
