One week before your ACT test can have you feeling stressed. It can indeed be nerve-wracking and the jitters can be distracting. As your ACT exam looms, you’ll tend to feel on the edge- whether you’ve rigorously kept to your test prep or rarely bothered to read your review book. Nonetheless, you should find ways to feel in control a few days before your ACT test, and here are 8 tips about what to do on this particular period.

• Settle where you are in your ACT test prep program. Trust where you are with your test prep if you feel that you have kept to it dedicatedly. Has your practice served you well? If it has, good. Stick to the strategies that you have been doing. Consider that your test prep is not merely a training, but is part of the real thing that will have you moving towards your educational and career goals. Otherwise, if you haven’t been so committed to your ACT review, don’t succumb to cramming. Focus your preparation on knowing what to expect on the day of your test.

Exercise for 30 minutes or more everyday. It’s not silly at all to do this. In fact, exercising regularly one week before your exam can condition you to become more prepared for such an event. For one thing, it will relieve your stress and help you sleep more soundly. At the same time, it will boost your focus. Sweating it out a week before the ACT test also strengthens your immune system, ultimately warding off possible illnesses.

• Eat more fruits and veggies- add these to your every meal. This will keep bugs and sickness away and boost your energy as well. Remember that you should be feeling “super” on your test day, so it makes sense to do everything to make you so.

• Sleep earlier than you used to. With so much to do in school, high school students tend not to get enough sleep these days. All-nighters are in fact common for these individuals, especially when they have a bunch of homework, projects and exams to do. Be ready for your upcoming ACT test by sleeping early one week before. It will help you relax and sleep soundly on the night before your exam.

• Prepare and pack all your ACT test day requirements on the night before your exam. Don’t wait until the morning of your exam to print out your admission ticket. It would be a major fiasco if you find that your printer has run out of ink! Go through your checklist on Friday night so that everything is bundled up and you’re ready to go to your testing center on your ACT test day.

• Wake up 30 minutes earlier than your schedule on your test day. Make room for a hefty and healthy breakfast on your exam day. You wouldn’t want to be frazzled on this particular time. Waking up early will keep your stress levels down. It’ll make your brain more alert, too. More importantly, you’ll want to arrive to your testing center with sufficient time to compose and relax yourself before the test starts.

• Don’t skip eating a good breakfast on the morning of your test. Research has indicated that students who didn’t eat breakfast before taking practice tests scored lower than average. As an organ, your brain needs food so that you can focus. Take into account that the ACT is much like a mental marathon. Your brain will need ample sustenance to be able to keep up to its feat. Be on the go on your test day by eating scrambled eggs, oatmeal and a fresh fruit on the side and avoid fatty foods or those that contain much refined sugar. Drink 2 glasses of water on the night before your test and at least 1 glass on the next morning. Hydration is imperative, but don’t overdo it.
