Anxiety and depression treatment may be quite similar in nature, even though each is unique. Both are treatable, common emotional disorders. Depending on you and your situation, you have several treatment options. You can either use conventional methods or alternative treatments. Both have helped many people.nnConventional Treatments For Anxiety & Depression Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be used to treat both disorders. It can also be used in conjunction with drugs, which is an effective combination. CBT focuses on changing your thoughts and behavior. For anxiety, there may be breathing exercises along with gradual exposure to anxiety-provoking situations, eventually leading to managing or getting rid of that specific fear. For depression, social skills may also be taught. A depressed person may find it hard to maintain friendships or make new friends. For both of these disorders, antidepressants are usually prescribed. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a class of antidepressants that are used for both anxiety and depression, however, they take time to work. Benzodiazepines and beta-blockers are classes of drugs used for anxiety. They act quicker in quelling your anxiety. As with most of these drugs, there may be bad side effects. Not everyone reacts the same way. Also, not every drug will work for you. The good news is, because there's so many of them, usually one (or many) will work. You may have to find the right one.nnAlternative Treatments For Anxiety & Depression Hypnosis is widely used by millions of people quite successfully for many issues, including for anxiety and depression. Speak to your doctor and perhaps you may be recommended to a good hypnotherapist. Hypnosis is definitely worth trying. If you prefer homeopathic or herbal remedies, you might want to tell your doctor that you would prefer natural products along with CBT. SAMe (pronounced Sammy) is a natural product that has made some headlines in terms of treating depression. Not only has it been helpful for many people but appears to have other health benefits, particularly for arthritis and Alzheimer's, though this is not proven. Another all-natural antidepressant that appears to be an effective anxiety and depression treatment is called Anxius. Judging from testimonials of users, it seems to work and quite fast at that. It's always best to speak with your doctor or medical professional first. Sometimes, there may be a bad reaction from drugs and a natural product. Try never to use both together. In fact, with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), even certain foods can cause a bad interaction. The bottom line really is to educate yourself with some research and then decide your plan of action. Generally, natural methods have fewer side effects than drugs. If you have both depression and anxiety, Anxius may be something worth looking into.
