Teaching our kids about Abundance and the Law of Attraction can be frustrating, confusing, and hard to stick to if parents forget to remember to apply to their own lives what they teach to their kids. To model the Law of Attraction effectively, we must first be willing to give our thoughts and feelings a positive makeover.
The Law of Attraction (LOA) is not-so-much difficult to understand as it is to apply. However, in LOA speak, you wouldn’t say that it’s difficult, but that instead, it comes easily and naturally. For the sake this article, I’ll go halfway and call it a “challenge” because it very much is.
The first time I was exposed to the movie, The Secret, I was in complete awe. The idea was easy to grasp, and it all made perfect sense. For the rest of the day, I walked around my home feeling lighter than air for the fact that I was given top-secret information that would – from this day forward – change my life. For hours, I spouted off affirmations, and was so astonished by how I have unknowingly sabotaged my own progress through negative self-talk. It was a day of great inspiration, and my life was going to be more meaningful henceforth.
Until… I woke up the next morning to a clean slate and a vanished epiphany. Days went by before I realized that I had completely forgotten The Secret, and I would go at least another year, before paying any mind to it again; because frankly, it was way too hard to be mindful of my every thought, feeling, and action. And it is a challenge – there’s no doubt about that! However, it’s a challenge because, as adults, we already have years and years of acting, thinking, feeling—believing a certain way under our belt. We are a pro at what we know! Implementing a new thought process is not something that is easily achieved without a great deal of practice and commitment; therefore, the Law of Attraction becomes readily dismissed due to the degree of difficulty that it brings. Henry Ford said it best, “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.”
Reprogramming your thoughts and clearing your limiting beliefs takes BIG effort. It’s not surprising that I forgot all about what I learned in The Secret the very next day, because the movie was only meant to expose us to the age-old philosophy by giving us snippets of what the LOA is all about. It does not give us the magical power to erase decades of faulty thinking within 90 minutes of film time.
Kids however, do not have to work at changing years of negative thoughts and beliefs. This makes them wonderful candidates for an abundance-filled future. Much of what they learn initially is through the imitation of their parent’s thoughts and actions which is motivating enough to evaluate how we’ve been thinking all these years. Learning Law of Attraction techniques as a family has a powerful benefit in that it can propel the success of everyone within your home—including adults. This family learning style reinforces accountability in that it is unfair to deviate from your new positive way of thinking when others are following your lead.
So where to begin?
Well as the old saying goes, we must first “practice what we preach.” We will stop at nothing to encourage our children to dream big and to believe in themselves. We will put great emphasis on how our children can do anything they put their mind to when they frustratingly declare that they can’t. As parents, it’s natural for us lovingly nudge our children into a direction full of wonderful opportunity and limitless potential. It’s important to us that they believe themselves to be capable, deserving, and in control of their goals. We instill unto our kids that Believing is Seeing; yet, more often than not, we will guide our own selves by the opposite that Seeing is Believing.
We must become aware of our own past thoughts, feelings, and actions because they emit a powerful energy that practically begs the Universe to reciprocate. Look at your current results – when you guide yourself by the rule that like attracts like, you will begin to see how your past energy has served you by what you have now.
We’ve spent many years in an altered state of reality living a life that lacks abundance. When did we sign up for a life of low-income, no-income, employed, unemployed, 40-hour work-weeks, minimum-wage, stress, responsibility, enormous debt, multiple jobs, dual-income families, and never-ending struggle? We didn’t, and neither did our kids. This planet would be awfully vacant if unhappiness, depression, and hardships were the main criteria for joining the global community. Each one of us is meant to enjoy all the wonderful rewards that life has to offer. For that reason, we all have the power to attract our purpose, dreams, goals, love, relationships, wealth, good heath, and happiness.
Change your thoughts, clear your limiting beliefs, express gratitude, choose happiness, and be positive. As you do this, your energy will shift, and your life will rearrange accordingly. Why? Because that’s the Law of Attraction!
