Change Your Point of View to Serve You

We got into one of those silly secession conversations the other day. A gentleman was saying that New Hampshire didn't agree with the way that the Federal government was assuming that it was the omnipotent power and it could dictate to all the states and all the people—when in fact, we are, and were formed, as a conglomeration of states that created that government for our convenience.

Not to be run by it, you understand.

So the conversation went on and of course, ol' Ted here, being a Southerner—I said, "Oh, good luck!” I mean, I can see it coming. Everything depends on your point of view; everything depends on your experience. I can see it coming, if they go that secession route. The U.S. government will pounce on them, will kill them, will murder them, will break their back, and will subject them and will correct them into compliance.

It’s the wonderful “shock and awe” way they love to fight.

Now, we've seen them doing this in other countries, but that seems so very far away. (Until you visit – then you’ll see the memory and the rancor lives on.) But I'm a Southerner, bud. They came down here. They raped our daughters and our wives. They killed our brothers, fathers, and sons. They absolutely destroyed our economy, they absolutely ruined every business that we had. They destroyed the South and absolutely subjugated every person in the land.

Some people have never heard that point of view. In fact, none of the people I was talking to had heard that point of view. They marveled, because they've only heard the Northern point of view, which is the one in the federally-issued history books they distribute - that the North had to save the country and, therefore, it went down to help the South out.

Be that as it may, I happen to have that Southern point of view because I'm Dixie—got Dixie in my blood, be Dixie 'til I die. But it's just a point of view. It's not a point of fighting. It's not a position that I actually mention very often. And I can flip back to the other side's point of view because we've had a lot of time since. Things have changed, and old attitudes no longer exist. Time goes on.

It's all a point of view. You can switch; when you see it in one illustration, you recognize that you can begin to switch your point of view to something that serves you better, if you choose to.

For instance, a poor employee, one who can't get the job done right, becomes a charity case until you can figure out a way to document him and get him out of there. It doesn't have to be an emotional drainer; it just is what it is.

Change your point of view, you change your experience of life. And the more energized you are, the more you're going to achieve. That's logical, now isn't it?

Change your point of view to serve you!

New Hampshire, this Bud’s for you!
