Common Body Sculpting Procedures
Written by Nares
There are a number of different cosmetic surgery procedures for body sculpting which can be performed to improve an individual’s body shape. Below is a brief description of the main body sculpting plastic surgery procedures:
Liposuction: this is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures. Liposuction surgery involves making an incision near the target body region from where fat removal is desired and then removing fat by suction through a cannula (a hollow tube). Liposuction plastic surgery can be performed under both general and local anaesthesia, the exact choice depending on the extent of surgery and preference of the patient.
Tummy Tuck: another body sculpting cosmetic surgery procedure which is also known as abdominoplasty. Tummy tuck surgery is performed to remove excess fat and skin from around the waist. The procedure tightens the muscles around the abdomen which gives it a leaner, flatter appearance. The procedure is often considered by individuals who have lost considerable weight and are left with excess sagging. Tummy tuck cosmetic surgery is also common after pregnancy which can result in loosening of the abdominal wall.
Thigh Lift: is a cosmetic surgery procedure which removes excess fat and skin from the thighs and buttocks. A thigh lift is often undergone by individuals who have loose skin around the thigh and buttock area as a result of the natural ageing process or similarly to a tummy tuck by individuals who have been left with excess loose skin after considerable weight loss.
Brachioplasty: otherwise commonly known as an upper arm lift. Although this body sculpting procedure is not as well known as the more popular ones such as liposuction, brachioplasty can be performed to give the arms a more leaner and youthful appearance by removing excess fat and skin from the upper arms.
Smartlipo: is newer minimally invasive procedure which can be performed under local anaesthesia to remove fat from a large number of different body areas. Smart lipo has gained popularity particularly for its minimal side effects and shorter recovery times in comparison to more invasive body sculpting plastic surgery procedures such as traditional liposuction. Smartlipo involves the insertion of a cannula (thin hollow tube) near the targeted body region through which a laser can then be applied to eliminate excess unwanted fat cells. The Smartlipo procedure has undergone considerable advancement itself over the past few years and latest techniques now entail Smartlipo MPX by Cynosure as done by most leading smartlipo clinics such as The Hurlingham Clinic and Spa situated in London.
However, despite the benefits which can be obtained through the body sculpting procedures stated above, it is always important to remember that no cosmetic or plastic surgery procedure is a substitute to a healthy lifestyle which includes a well balanced diet and regular exercise.
