Don’t you just love fall? Such a season of change and renewal. I remember when I moved to Costa Rica asking my Aunt Ida to pick Autumn leaves and send them to me in the mail---- just so I would not forget the changing of the seasons with all of it’s symbolism in my new tropical environs. This fall has been particularly special to me as I attended the AICC Convention in Kansas City for Park University.
Here amidst over 100 national speakers, I heard Fred Pryor. Legendary founder of Fred Pryor Seminars and Career Track tell a personal story that would remind me of the power of renewal and commitment and in essence the symbolism encapsulated in a crisp, fall day.
Fred, who has celebrated more than 50 years with his lovely bride said “you know my neighbors have had a few wives and I don’t think they’re any happier” Fred went on to deliver a powerful message that “we need to all remember why we fell in love to begin with and to work at keeping our love alive”. While he was speaking of personal relationships, I believe Fred’s message applies to not only the love of a lifetime but our passion for our profession, and our indeed our passion for life.
In the work I do with businesses around the country--------in some ways, I feel like the Love Dr----somehow reminding professionals of why they chose to be here amidst the routine of day to day. To that end, I take them on a journey…
So for just this article, I’d like you to think of a fall day many years ago when you carved a pumpkin with the love of your life. Can you see that magical day? Think of a day when you said goodbye to your parents and maybe made your home in a strange dorm room or new job that promised a whole new beginning; Do you remember? Think of that day when you fought your fears and stepped foot into a new school and with that step developed a new confidence. Do you remember how brave you were?
You know I think Fred is right: Sometimes we don’t need something new to keep life exciting - Maybe the answer is in remembering why we fell in love in the first place---be it a mate, a profession, even our very passion for life. Maybe the real art is in honoring our past while embracing an amazing future of possibilities.
A participant I met recently said he had been told the Secret to Happiness is having….
*Someone to Love
*Something to Do
*Something to Look forward to
How are you doing on those 3 counts?
Wishing you a Bountiful Harvest………
