When Carl Jung was a little boy, he had the funniest hobby: Ink blots. He'd make one in a notebook, then interpret it. This happened without his knowing about Rorschach's famous method of psychological testing.

Fast forward to today. (Specifically, it's one day after official publication of my new book, Read People Deeper: Body Language + Face Reading + Auras.) Mental health professionals still are doing Rorschach. Meanwhile we live in a world quite different from Jung's and Rorschach's... with aura readings, spiritual readings, intuitive readings. www.rose-rosetree.com)

Basically, energy fields are interpreted as freely as ink blots.

Why not? They're all holograms of mind-body-spirit. Reading faces is another great hologram, as any physiognomist knows. Given the rich 5,000-year history of reading physical face data for character (www.rose-rosetree.com),it's amazing that most people ignore meaningful looks at faces... except to interpret expression.

Remarkably, in mainstream society, body language remains the one permissible way of reading people deeper. Although we have fancier labels than in the days of Jung, many of us go only as deep as people did back in the last millennium (despite the fact that consciousness today is way higher, as discussed in a previous post at my blog, www.rose-rosetree.com).

Stuck or not, few people realize that their very way of reading body language speaks volumes about them. Keep reading to interpret this kind of spiritual ink blot test.

WHICH WAY IS YOUR WAY?

Today let's consider five ways of using body language. And what they reveal. Can you recognize yourself or anyone you know?

1. SCIENCE GIVES PERMISSION

Body language can be a person's safe touch-down into mind-body-spirit. "Relax. Scientists have studied it. Ph.D.s specialize in it." Therefore, you're allowed to notice a scowl or crossed arms. This doesn't mean you are venturing down the slippery slope of the unscientific. Phew!

Yesterday I spoke with a client, "Mandy," who told me that she tiptoed around mind-body-spirit for a good long time. Mandy would touch down just long enough to see if the practitioner was too weird or scary. Then Mandy would back off and think about things. Eventually she decided to plant both feet down and learn what she could.

Guess that woo-woo turf contained some powerful quicksand because she hasn't left yet.

One reason I wrote Read People Deeper was to give people permission to inch their way forward into more insight. Find your category of choice among the 50 practical ones, www.rose-rosetree.com, and touch down just long enough to learn one new thing. That's safe!

2. ONE NEAT TRICK

Dogs aren't the only ones who can learn new tricks. My friend and mentor Dr. Coletta Long, the pioneering regression therapist, loves animals. In our photo for today's post, here she is, among birds, teaching them a thing or two. (Or maybe she's healing their deepest pain. That would be Coletta.)

Some people treat themselves that way, treating body language like a set of tricks where one physical position equals one inner fact, e.g., Legs crossed at the thigh equal sexual unavailability. Teach yourself one trick a day and, hey, give yourself a cracker!

Seriously, it's a good thing when people learn at the speed that is comfortable for them. Individualized learning makes a great reason to buy old-fashioned, hard copy books. You can do a page a day or just a paragraph. Nobody has the power to push you to turn that page. Amazingly, body language has so much range that it can be used for a baby step or a giant step. Next in today's list comes something more like an umbrella step...

3. SITUATIONAL RESEARCH

Do you feel safe reading body language only in certain situations? Some people feel it's okay for business but nothing else; they wouldn't be caught dead reading legs crossed at the thigh... unless it meant something about sales readiness. Others give themselves permission to read body language for dating but get squeamish around reading for intimacy.

See what I mean about ink blot significance? Think about it for a moment. Are there some areas where you feel it is okay to read people deeper while other areas should be taboo? And what would that preference reveal about you? For a quick quiz about your safe areas, click here for a list of the 50 categories in Read People Deeper. (www.rose-rosetree.com)How do you react, just reading the list?

In researching Read People Deeper, I selected the 50 behavioral categories that seemed most important for varied situations in life. I can't wait to learn which ones are your favorites. Personally, I believe in ethics (as discussed in the book). Provided that you use information ethically, I believe that you have every right to read people as deeply as ever you can.

4. OMNISCIENCE, QUICK

You could consider this use of body language the polar opposite of the previous one. With this approach, nonverbal communication will reveal everything worth knowing.

Some readers of body language remind me of baseball card collectors. They want just a few more cards to complete that collection. So, over the years, they have asked me to teach them just a few new items that would complete the whole set.

I don't believe that body language tells you nearly as complete a set of information as you can receive from Body Language + Face Reading + Auras. Bet you guessed that. ;-) (By the way, the link for ordering is here: www.pbscart.com.)

Yet some people really do learn all they need from that level. Their interests are so practical that it's plenty strenuous, reading a wink or a nod or a twisted torso. How comfortable are YOU, dipping into the inner?

5. CONTROL

Another group of body language enthusiasts cares most about control. If they made an ink blot for their own test, undoubtedly it would be perfectly round.

Do you use body language to control others? A common example is how some people use mirroring in order to gain instant rapport with a sales client.

Or those same items of body language might be used for self-control. If you've been revealing insecurity, worry, or other undesirable qualities, why not find out the nonverbal signs and train yourself NOT to do them?

So many reasons to read people deeper! So many ways that we reveal who we are, living from a sacred human level of consciousness! Tomorrow, let's consider a completely different set of ways to use body language for fun and profit.
