I knew I wanted to quit my job for over a year, but I did nothing about it. Why? Because I was afraid, I was scared what might happen if my business was a failure. The fear of failure kept me paralyzed for over a year.

I Can’t Decide

The words, “I can’t” are the most paralyzing in the English language.

You learned these words. It’s not something you came up with on your own. You had to learn it from somewhere. If you look closely you’ll see that you learned those two words from your parents and guardians as you were growing up. Consider the following:

* Don’t touch that
* Stay away from that
* Stop it
* Leave her alone
* Leave them alone
* You can’t do that
* She can’t do that
* He can’t do that
* They can’t do that

You were literally programmed and taught “I can’t.” Your ill-informed parents taught you to think this way because they didn’t know any better. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be responsible for your own thoughts from now on.

Start using “I can” instead of “I can’t.” Deciding is easy once you can.

I Can’t Decide or Can I?

You know, deep down I knew what was important to me. I could feel it. I really wanted to get going with my new coaching business, but I just wasn’t sure how to go about it. I couldn’t see the way.

Does this sound familiar?

When you choose a goal that you already know how to accomplish, it’s the wrong goal. A goal that doesn’t challenge and test you won’t cause growth and expansion.

The only way to know if you have the right goal is if you don’t know how to do it.

You can’t possibly know all the steps before you decide. So what should you do? Decide anyway.

How I Decided

Nobody has ever asked me this before and wish more people would. The day I decided to quit my job was one of the happiest days of my life. I was in a Bob Proctor seminar.

Bob was talking about paradigms. Thefreedictionary.com states a paradigm as,

* a set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them.

Bob was saying that most people go to a job from Monday to Friday. They go there 8 hours per day, doing something they don’t want to do, while someone is telling them to do it. Some people will commute an hour or more, twice a day to get to their job in a cubicle that has four walls. Sort of like a prison.

That hit a nerve.

Bob went on to say that most people go to work to make a living. He said that people don’t go to work so that they can earn $50,000 per year. They go to work because they are unaware of how to earn $50,000 per month!

He had me going.

He then went on to say that the reason most people do this is because of their limited paradigms or beliefs. Their paradigms are what have kept them stuck in that job. Change the paradigm and you change the behavior. People are run by their paradigms.

I left that seminar and quit my job the following week. My paradigm had shifted and so did my perspective. I thought,

“What’s the worst that could happen?”

You can’t decide when you’re ready, or when the conditions are just right. It’s never the right time to decide until you decide.
