A Perfect Life - Step 1

In the last few issues, we have talked about creating instead of coping in our lives. Last week I gave some examples of how to do this.

Find it here.

Beginning this week, we are going to talk about creating a complete - and perfect - life.

Before we begin this discussion, (that is me discussing and you reading ), ask yourself this question.

"Do I believe that having a perfect life is even possible?"

How did you answer yourself? Your answer is our starting point.

To have a perfect life, (APL for short), first we must accept that everything is perfect RIGHT NOW!

Is that a difficult idea to swallow?

Let's set this scenario. You have just come home from a one hour commute in traffic, after working 9 hours in a job you really don't like, working with people you might not care for, at a wage that is twenty five cents over what the kids at the burger stand get. You are twenty five pounds overweight, have two kids that are the talk of the neighborhood, and you are in debt for the next nine hundred years.

Life is perfect! You are probably thinking I am nuts! However, this is the first key to having a perfect life! Somehow, you have to come to the realization that life is perfect AS IT IS! If you adhere to the belief that we choose our lives, (and you should), then you understand that where you are now is exactly where you asked to be! Now THAT may be hard to swallow!!

However you choke that idea down is up to you, but believe it you must! It is so important that you accept the fact that you are where you are because of your actions because, when this is true you now know you have the ability to change your scenario!

Am I making sense? May I say it again?

If actions and thoughts you had in the past made your life the way it is, good, bad or ugly, then actions and thoughts you have today have the power to make your life anything you want.

To completely accept this fact make take you a couple of minutes, a couple of days or a couple of months! Time doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that you fully accept responsibility for the way things are!

Now watch this. If you are responsible for the way things are – no matter *how* things are - then your life is perfect because it is exactly how you wanted it! How does that feel? I want you to know that when I realized this, I hurt! You might too!

There is good news here. When you fully accept this premise, there is joy. Whatever reasons we made our lives the way they are today are in the past. Today is a new day. Today we can think and do whatever we choose!

Your homework this week is to accept the fact that your life is perfect just the way it is! If accepting the idea life is perfect now and is your responsibility evokes a strong response in you, I would like to hear about that as well.
