It is clear that our reading skills and passion can help us read as many good books as we want. But isn’t it rather farfetched thinking to even believe that the act of reading can help us pursue grand dreams and meet great people?
The answer to this conundrum is this: Of course, reading can!
Here are some special tips to jumpstart your child on the reading journey:no Every day, make a list of 2-3 words that your child will learn to sight read. The list of the top 300 high frequency words is found in the workbook. This list makes up 65% of all written material in English.n no Expose your child to various literary genres to widen his reading interest. nno The most important skill that should be nurtured to develop the reading voice is your child’s imaginative skills. It is only when your child is able to visualize the shape, size, texture and character traits of each word will he be able to read with expression and enthusiasm. Play various visualization games. You can start with the popular “I Spy” game -- “I spy with my imagination a …..”

Cherry Pua-Africa is the author of stories such as The True Story of Humpty Dumpty that was recognized and awarded by Japan SV Association, The Culture Cat Series used by Cambridge Informatics throughout its franchise network and the Story Ring. She is also the producer of the educator's favorite storytelling CDs entitled The Story Ring and Never Ending Rhythm and Rhymes.
She is currently the Managing Director of Never Ending Story, a Singapore-based education consultancy firm providing training and coaching service to educators and school business managers and developing high impact school programmes. Cherry is also a director of ACT English in Thailand and has managed several kindergartens and speech and drama centres.

Cherry is currently a columnist in the education section of The Star newspaper in Malaysia and Bangkok Post in Thailand. She was also a guest consultant in famous child-related TV programmes in the Philippines, being a former speaker of Gain's Multiple Intelligences and has appeared in Bangkok Post, Singapore Parent Magazine, Manila Bulletin, Manila Chronicle, The Nation, Philippine Daily Inquirer and Philippine Parents' Magazine.
